Why Be New… When You Could Be YOU? *TIME 4 A CHANGE*

1950 VS 2012 Mercedes Benz…

The Bible says that in Christ we have been made “new”. Hallelujah! In this TIME 4 A CHANGE series, we have been challenging religion and its “normal” thinking process in order to stretch us out of our comfort zones in order to begin think of things in new and exciting ways, not challenging the Bible and it‘s truth… just challenging our perceptions of what we might THINK to be true- in order to lead us to BREAKTHROUGH. “Wisdom [is] the principal thing; [therefore] get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” Proverbs 4:7

Why? Why challenge our current thinking process? Why take the time to challenge what we have been taught before? Innovation. God and His Word is INNOVATION in action. If we are not constantly going to the Word for a new rhema word from Him, than we can often grow stagnant. If everything seems “normal”, “regular”, or “average” in your life and you desire BREAKTHROUGH… then it is more than likely time for a new Word from God.

It is not from an aspect of dissatisfaction that we seek God’s Word out for a newly revealed Word to us, it is due to our spirit’s eager desire for the innovating and creative spark of God that only HIS Word possesses. Our spirits are very much like the Morning Glory flower that goes to sleep every night and wakes up looking for the sun every morning. To this plant, (which goes into a somewhat hibernated state at night) wakes up to each and every day looking to draw energy from the sun in order to bloom! For this plant, each day is FULL of sun and possibilities for growth! It is invigorated and innovated to change its state daily!

Every night the morning glory “goes to sleep” (fig.1), every morning the morning glory at the presence of the sun opens (fig. 2)

As a Christian Observational Journalist, I am challenged to observe and write what I see and how it relates to the Word of God. What I feel led to write on today, is the observation that some new Christians can go through an unfortunately harrowing emotional roller coaster upon their salvation. What can start out as being a spiritually euphoric state for Christ and salvation, can often end in a harsh and biting reality of physical disappointment. What is this? Why is this so?

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service. Romans 12:1

What is seen happening often, is that while new Christians are busy “throwing out” the sin in their lives (YEAH!)- many actually end up going to the extreme and not just throw out their sins, they end up without mentorship throwing out their God-given natures as well! Artistic, creative, personable… etc. Unfortunately this act of “throwing the baby out with the bath water”, gives them (as a new Christian) a looming sense of depression and unease. This uneasiness, if gone unchecked- can end up leading them straight out of God’s presence and back into the bondage of the enemy. (Going back to what is familiar is often easier than learning how to do something on ones own)

The Romans 12:1 scripture states that we should strive to be as “living sacrifices”, daily waking up seeking God to INNOVATE our lives into our perfected walks. Daily we must work on staying out of sin, and daily we must work on trusting God to use us as He has purposed us in our creation!

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jer 29:11

We are ALL works in progress, and God is not expecting us to be finished overnight. While spiritually in an INSTANT we have been made into the righteousness of God- we are called to physically walk and praise in the revelation that HIS MERCIES ARE NEW EVERY MORNING, (Lamentations 3:22-23) and that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (Phil. 1:6)

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Jer. 1:5

In Jeremiah 1:5 God basically tells Jeremiah “Look, before you were even in your mother’s womb- I KNEW YOU. I knew who I was making when I decided to make you, and I knew WHY I was going to put you on this earth.” Every child is a child of purpose and has been decidedly created by God. This is why abortion is such an atrocity to fundamentalist Chrisitans. We who believe that the Bible is 100% true, read scriptures like Jeremiah 1:5 and argue that abortion (regardless of how the act of pregnancy took place) is immoral and against God, due to the fact that God HAS A PURPOSE FOR US ALL.

This being said, how then does a new Christian end up depressed- when they have just been given the greatest gift of all – eternal love and salvation? They begin to believe that who they currently are is ALL bad, and that they can no longer be who they have been created to be – and they just don’t know HOW to voice this.

I once heard Brother Kenneth Copeland preach, “Most of the men we meet in prison were destined to be preachers of the Gospel- however at some point the devil intervened and was able to steer them away from the will of God for their lives.”

But the Scripture declares that the whole world is a prisoner of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe. Galatians 3:22

Then Peter opened [his] mouth, and said, “Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with Him.” Acts 10:34 & 35

What good characteristics do most inmates have, that made them “successful” criminals (until they got caught)? People skills, “family” networks, drive, ambition, and focus (among other things).

When a sinner gets “saved” they too have such gifts and talents (as were given to them by birth). A mature Christian mentor and Disciple will guide new Christians on how NOT to loose these God-given qualities while they loose their sin. A mature and established man or woman of God will look at a newly converted Christian’s ENTIRE life and see were their talents and gifts may be found. They will encourage the new brother or sister to not try and quit being who they are, but they will care enough instead to educate them on how to channel their gifts and talents into the service of the Kingdom.

What makes them as men and women tick? What do they tend to do naturally? As you embrace a new brother or sister in Christ and ask yourself these questions, remember that this new Christian is not ALL “bad” while their sinful habits need to change- they are a uniquely created and God inspired person too (just like you). They are a person created  BY God in order to MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Guiding a man or woman into salvation is just as much about discipleship and mentoring one-to-another, as it is about “getting them saved”. Today I urge you to make a commitment to not just “get people saved” but to vow to “re-parent” the lost, as praying a quick prayer in the euphoric state- is JUST the beginning!

May God Bless you as you continue to press into His Word and recognize that HE created you ON PURPOSE and on point. He loves you so much that while you may have strayed from the faith, that desire that you have to live a talented life- is what God has always wanted! Now, let us begin working on being  who God has always desired us from before birth to become!
