“I was savin’ this money for a divorce, if I ever got a husband!” – Annie, It’s a Wonderful Life
It’s a Wonderful Life
Every year in America, around this time of year the television networks begin to show Frank Capras movie It’s a Wonderful Life. It is an excellent movie about a man who is angry and bitter about his life and looses a considerable amount of other peoples money. In his desperation, realizing that with his insurance money from his death would pay all his bills, he threatens to commit suicide. The Lord in His Divine power sends the man an angel in his darkest hour, and the angel shows the desperate man what life would have been like if he were never born.
Recognizing the error of his ways, he ends up repenting and realizing that he really did have a wonderful life after all. At the end of the movie all of his friends come together to bring him more than enough money than he needed. One of the most memorable lines in the movie is from the man’s housekeeper, who in her best accent says; “I was savin’ this money up for a divorce, if-in ever I got a husband.”
Jesus, More Spouse than You Will Ever Need
Today, more than ever, I felt that I should encourage you that Jesus is all the spouse you will ever need. It is very telling about societies view on marriage when an actress in a movie filmed more than 50 years ago is given a line that portrays marriage as costing money and always ends in divorce. While we as an audience laugh about her line, the tell tale truth is that most people believe that all marriage ends in divorce, so why bother?
Did you know that you have the ability to decide whether or not your marriage lasts? That there is one sure-fire way to secure yourself a lasting marriage? Marry Jesus first!
What does “Marrying Jesus” mean? “Marrying” Jesus is a term I quote regularly to describe to people their commitment level to Christ. Both men and women can “Marry Christ” and should.
The question being, “How are you ever expected to understand how to be married and committed to someone on this earth (husband, wife, kids, job)… if you can’t first commit to following Christ?” When times get tough, where are you going to derive your source to solve your problems, your mom? Your dad? What happens when they die? Commitment can only be understood, by first getting “committed”.
Cortés burned the ships to prevent further mutiny, we too must burn our ships
Cortés Burned (Scuttled) His Ships
When it is said that we must “burn our ships” it is in reference to moments in History when Conquistadors would scuttle their ships upon settling new lands. When a Conquistador like Cortés would embark on a new land, they would order their ships burned completely in order to evade mutiny from the crew. This ensured a crews complete commitment to conquer OR fail.
In order for us to build anything in life to success and completion, we must become completely committed to Christ. Scripture says that we (as people) can only love each other, because God the Father first loved us. In the same respect, we can only become committed in relationships and life, by first becoming committed. We too must “burn our ships”.
Don’t Take My Word on it, Listen to the Man Himself
So Jesus added, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man [on the cross], you will realize (know, understand) that I am He [for Whom you look] and that I do nothing of Myself (of My own accord or on My own authority), but I say [exactly] what My Father has taught Me. And He Who sent Me is ever with Me; My Father has not left Me alone, for I always do what pleases Him.”
So Jesus said to those Jews who had believed in Him, “If you abide in My word [hold fast to My teachings and live in accordance with them], you are truly My disciples. And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free.” John 8:28-32 AMP Version
You will be completely set free as you “abide” and commit to the Lord and His teachings. You will learn by reading your Bible: how to be a great spouse, how to be a great son, how to be a great daughter. You will learn: how to prosper, how to love, how to embrace failure and success. You will learn the source and answer to ALL of life’s mysteries!
“It is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.” Matt 13:11
“All We Need is Jesus”
When a Christian says, “You need Jesus!” what they are really saying is, “The answer to all of your problems is found in the Word of God. Christ Himself IS the Word of God, as you learn about Him and commit your life to following Him and receive Him as your Lord and Savior HE WILL COME AND LIFE WITH YOU IN YOUR HEART AND ALL OF YOUR “PROBLEMS” WILL BECOME HIS PROBLEMS AND GO AWAY FROM YOU. When you ask Christ into your heart He and His Holy Spirit will come to you. As you ask, you are asking and committing to THE SOURCE of all POWER and DELIVERANCE. He will meet you and SHOW YOU things to come. YOU NEED JESUS!”
But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. John 16:13
God Bless you friends today as you walk in all spiritual blessings and unmerited favor!
24 All are justified and made upright and in right standing with God, freely and gratuitously by His grace (His unmerited favor and mercy), through the redemption which is [provided] in Christ Jesus,
25 Whom God put forward [before the eyes of all] as a mercy seat and propitiation by His blood [the cleansing and life-giving sacrifice of atonement and reconciliation, to be received] through faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in His divine forbearance He had passed over and ignored former sins without punishment.
26 It was to demonstrate and prove at the present time (in the now season) that He Himself is righteous and that He justifies and accepts as righteous him who has [true] faith in Jesus. Romans 3:24-26Love Always, Your friend,
