“It is a masterpiece of the devil to make us believe that children cannot understand religion. Would Christ have made a child the standard of faith if He had known that it was not capable of understanding His words?” Dwight L. Moody
“Jehovah is the name of the supreme God amongst the Hebrews. The later Hebrews, for some centuries before the time of Christ, either misled by a false interpretation of certain laws (Ex 20:7; Lev 24:11), or else following some old superstition, regarded this name as SO VERY HOLY, that it might not even be pronounced.” – Gesenius’s Lexicon
Could you even imagine what it must have been like to be a Hebrew who was taught that they could not, or should not call out to their Creator by name? I can imagine it being like the censorship of the name “Jesus”.
Have you ever noticed how in movies or on television at the end of a family saying “grace” before they partake of a meal the family praying will always say, “AMEN” only? They do not say “In Jesus’ name AMEN”, just “AMEN”. This is due to the fact that most production companies WILL NOT tolerate the use of the name of Jesus in their programming, on their stations, or on the air.
I wonder just who these characters in TV-Land are supposed to be praying to exactly? This generic… “Dear God, Amen” prayer would avail NOTHING in reality. I certainly hope that you do not pray like they do on TV! Our Lord, our Adonai, our Jehovah God is not some “To whom it may concern” in the sky! These TV shows and movies are censored, much like the ancient Hebrews were censored in regards to the name Jehovah.
Understanding The Character of GOD
When I began writing on the various “names of God”, it was never my intent to confuse anyone about God and what one should call Him. Scripture itself says that JESUS is the name above ALL names. “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him (Jesus), and given him a name which is above every name” Phil 2:9-11 Instead, what I would like to highlight are all the magnificent characteristics of God our Father, and that is why we are learning His various names. So far we have learned that He is:
- Elohiym: Almighty and Powerful
- Adonai: Our Master, our Captain
- Jehovah: The EXISTING One
For the weak, He embodies us with POWER,
For it is only by His MIGHT that we can overcome.
For the lost, He is our
He guides us through uncharted waters,
And leads us across the rough terrain.
For the unbeliever in the good of humanity…
He reveals Himself OVER ALL humanity during the storms of our reality.
