Being a blessing is so much greater than just being blessed…
We are Called to BE a Blessing
Ah! The blessing! We as Christians are called to live by faith, and in this faith we are called to be a blessing to others!
Being a “blessing” means that instead of looking inwardly towards self and self promotion, you maintain the discipline to look outwardly toward others, enough so that the other people that you are exposed to can feel the love of God through your abilities to make them feel comfortable, joyful, peaceful, and on-the-whole happy. Choosing to live your life according to being a blessing is SO MUCH BETTER than living to be blessed!
The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself. Proverbs 11:25
Living to be Blessed vs. Living to Bless
Unfortunately some people who try to follow Christ only follow Him in order that they may personally receive. They take all opportunities that they can in order to “extract” value from others, and then they go ahead and refer to these exchanges as “blessings”. Today, I would like to encourage us to be less like Simon the sorcerer in Acts who attempted to pay for the anointing of God (trying to buy spiritual things in order for advancement Acts 8:9-25) , and more like Peter who was so filled with the Holy Ghost so much so that even as he walked by the sick in the street, when his shadow passed by them, they were healed.
Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number. As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by. Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by evil spirits, and all of them were healed. Acts 5:14-16
Being a Blessing isn’t Always Easy, but it is Always Worth it
Being a blessing isn’t always easy, but it is always worth it. When we choose to live our lives to bless others, it opens the hearts of men, and it opens the doors of opportunity. Just like when a child is in school and they bless their teacher, while their peers might consider them “teacher’s pets”, the teachers consider them prized students! It is ALWAYS better to see about the masters business over the business of others!
Yes, as we seek to bless others it will make way for us, and our friends might not like this. They might feel themselves less than or unworthy- but we must continue to bless others in spite of our peers, and seek to stand in the gap for those who are too busy looking from the outside in to see that the best opportunity that they could ever have is to lift others up in the name of Jesus!
“My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come. “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:33-34
Have a great today friends! I pray today that the Lord would continue to bless you in response to your humbled and valiant hearts and that you all may continue in the good works and be blessed to be a blessing!
