Day 9: PERSEVERANCE

Today’s principle focus is on perseverance and maintaining the course.

Scripture of the day: Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. Hebrews 12:1

Today’s Positive Words of Affirmation and Encouraging Words to Live By:“Today I will CONTINUE ON, REGARDLESS of who is watching.”

Where do I see myself on a scale of 1-10 in the area of “Perseverance”? 8 Where do you see yourself on a scale of 1-10, in perseverance?

LIFE LESSONS FROM MANGO

This morning, as my son was minding his chores outside, he had taken his bird with him. The bird is a parrot, and likes to perch on shoulders. Today was different however, I had forgotten to trim his wings! I being on my computer writing on perseverance immediately stopped what I was doing and ran outside to see what the commotion was. Imagine my surprise when, I saw our bird across the street in a tree! While I was momentarily proud of our seed shoveling semi-flightless bird, for getting up there, the reality was that he had gotten himself higher than we could climb.

PERSEVERING THROUGH CHALLENGES…EVERYBODY IS WATCHING

Seeing my distress (well, more like laughter and cooing from me to said bird-on-a-far-away-branch), the neighbors all started looking and staring. What a sight! Imagine a bright orange and red bird in a tree acting like a human (superior and dignified) whilst his owner stands 14 feet below acting like a bird! Kindly, our next door neighbor Renee solicited her boyfriend to come out and them being the most wonderful couple, got a ladder and extended themselves to us in help. After approximately 15 minutes and two trees later, Mango was back in my arms getting his wings clipped! Together, in the midst of our birdrama, we got to know our neighbors better, and while it could have been embarrassing it was actually a community building endeavor.

ANY PUBLICITY IS GOOD PUBLICITY

In 1933 Rhonda Farr was quoted saying, “Publicity, darling. Just publicity. Any kind is better than none at all.” Whenever you are doing something that gets noticed, you are engaging in the opportunity to build a team, community, or relationship. It is a very Americanized way of thinking to, “Do something all by myself”. Whether you win, lose, or fail, today I will challenge myself and others to do something worth getting noticed. I would like to challenge us all to see past our own successes or failures, and get a better grasp of the BIG picture. When you start anything, you will need people to get involved. This gives others opportunities that they may never have had. You will walk away from having started something, and preserved personally in the achievement of your dreams! Who cares the result?!

… since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith…

The only thing that gets us to quit early in life and give-up the desire to persevere is allowing ourselves and our embarrassments get in our own way. I am here today to encourage you that YOU CAN CONTINUE, YOU CAN FINISH THE RACE THAT IS BEFORE YOU, BY THE END OF THIS EVERYONE WILL BE CHEERING FOR YOU! The only question left is… do you know where you are running to?

PRAY FOR A CLEAR PICTURE

If you have no idea where you are going or why, you must take the time to pray for direction. I had a definite objective this morning GET THE BIRD OUT OF THE TREE AND BACK HOME. With this clear objective, I was able to execute with perseverance and achieve the result required. Your objective might be to clean out the closet, or write a poem, or take out the trash, or even build a company. Whatever the project is, pray for a picture of what it is supposed to look like, grab ahold of it and don’t let go! Victory and community involvement is right around the corner. The Lord will provide you with people who have the skills to help the vision come to pass. I wasn’t as tall as my neighbor, nor did I have a ladder, but because I had a “clear objective, vision, and purpose” the Lord provide a tall neighbor with a ladder and a heart to serve! What a victory!

Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extraspiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls! Hebrews 12:1-3 MSG

My Prayer Today,
Father God, today as we focus on perseverance, I humbly ask that you would give all of your children a clear picture. Something that they can do for You and with You, Lord if it is something small than let it build, if it is something big, than give them the strength of back and character of conviction to get their projects finished! In Your Son Jesus’ name, AMEN!

May God Bless you today as persevere in pursuit of your dreams,

Love Always,

Jessica

Did you know???

Even though Pharaoh had rule over all of Egypt, he handed all of the responsibility for running the country over to Jacob’s son Joseph. Joseph was not the one with “the dream” or the “power”, he was the man with the plan on how to get Egypt through the famine! God will not only give you a vision, He will always give you the direction to work a plan of execution.
