CONDE’MOM’NATION

For me… it happens every night right as I am about to go to bed. Those nagging questions begin to flood in, you know the ones … “Am I doing enough? Did the kids brush their teeth? Should I work more on the calendar? Do I have a coffee date tomorrow? What am I making for dinner? Did I get the laundry done? What’s in the wash? What’s in the dryer? Will I be able to sleep through the night?…” It is almost as if we expect the “Siri” in our brain to answer all of our pestering questions and then go to work on them like a Genie in the lamp, leaving us to wake up refreshed and all our work finished while we sleep.

I have named this “The Conde’mom’nation Hour”. If when our babies were newborns they had “witching hours” – times of day when all they did was cry – I think we moms as we grow older in our parenting seem to develop a condemnation hour – same time every night. Right as we are trying to relax.

How is it we can WORK ALL DAY at doing our best; driving our kids to practice, making dinner, being there for our husbands… and then in an instantall our “good deeds” become forgotten and we are left questioning everything from our hip size to our house size? Honestly, I think it’s because as moms we have decided to become by day total CONTROL FREAKS.

Wow, that was a revelation right there. I normally don’t consider myself a control freak. And have only began thinking in terms of this as I write this post. I have SIX KIDS and everything to me is OUT OF CONTROL, like 99% of the time. I don’t like babies to have dirty faces (which they do), sit in dirty diapers (naturally), and I don’t like them wearing dirty clothes (of course). I don’t like dishes in the sink, or toys all over the floor. We live in 1000 sqft and if a towel is so much as left out in the open – it is as if you moved the couch into the center of the room.

I think the last eight years of living with eight people in a “quaint” space has made me a bit of a control freak. (YES I AM ADMITTING THIS) But is being “clean” controlling? I suppose it is, if I loose focus of myself and instead of cleaning up to serve others, I only clean up to stay busy keeping up appearances and in-turn become some sort of house drill Sergeant. Perhaps the Condemomnation Hour is a direct result of all the micro-controlling decisions I make ALL DAY LONG compiled into a MACRO self-condemnation moment right when I need to relax enough to fall asleep to get the energy I need to be “mom” all over again the next day.

Don’t get me wrong – I LOVE our house – I do not desire to move or uproot our family from the nest we have built. These last eight years have been amazing in the sense of discovering what is most important to our family. Today’s revelation seems to be the last and final piece to the puzzle of what it means to be in this Chapter in my life. The realization that condemnation only comes from two places – myself, and the devil. Yeah, I wrote about the nasty adversary who seeks to destroy.  All he wants is for me to feel like a BAD MOMMY, and when I am a control freak all day long and can’t control anything even into the night – I AM A BAD MOMMY. No one should go to bed feeling inadequate! No one should go to bed feeling the pain of condemnation!

WHAT CAN WE DO?

First off we can take a deep breath and realize some stuff is just out of our hands. Not everything is going to get done before bed, sometimes our kids will forget to brush their teeth, sometimes we will too. The Bible says, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who love God and are called according to his purpose”. (Romans 8:1) I agree with that – and need to remember that more often. Jesus hasn’t condemned me for my sins… as a mater of fact in Him I won’t even be persecuted for my sins! Is not picking up a pair of undies off the floor an unforgivable sin? NO! So I have no right to treat it as one! Jesus loves me for me, not my spotless floors!

Secondly, we can understand these things are only temporal. As a mater of fact, the longer we work to remain clean and tidy (it’s a constant process) the tidier and cleaner we will get, and the tidier and cleaner we get as we grow – when our own children are up and grown – the tidier and cleaner we will have become. Then that day will come when they have up and moved out, and our houses will always be clean! This too shall pass!

As for tomorrow, I VOW to make tomorrow better. I will try to “control” less and GIVE more. I will go to bed without a bag of condemomnation weighing on my shoulders because I will defer to others some of the daily work, or simply allow it to get done in it’s own time.

Just as babies eventually grow out of their “witching hours” it is time for this mom to grow out of her “condemomnation hours”. Who’s with me?

Poisoning Children, Public Bombings and Tainted Meatballs

While I strive to be encouraging and uplifting in my aticles and messages, sometimes when I am awakened in the morning with a word to share I must share it regardless of its “theme”.

This week in a remote village in India 23 children died from eating school lunches that had been fixed with tainted oil. 23 families have lost loved ones, and more than that at least 50 children were exposed to the poisoned food. The police had to go and search for the Principal of the school, because she had fled.

Also this week, the last remaining survivor of the Boston Marathon bombings was sent home after 100 days of being in critical to stable condition in the hospital. At the same time, about a month ago in San Francisco someone who was upset with dogs had planted thousands of tainted and poisoned raw meat meatballs all over the city in places where dogs normal urinate in attempt to drastically reduce and kill the pooch population.

What is this world coming to? What can we learn from such vial and evil acts? Not a day goes by that we don’t hear news of a child abduction, a mass murder, or some sort of chemical warfare threatening our food system… something has to change.

RELIGION KILLS

Religion is nothing more than a set of regimented rules that when one repeats them over and over again, a said result is promised to occur. For example, some people “religiously” go to coffee every morning at 8 am on their way to work. Their coffee going habit becomes a religious experience. They take the drink, blow on it in a certain way, take 25 steps out the door to the car… etc. This is religion at its basic form.

Jesus said, “Who needs a doctor: the healthy or the sick? Go figure out what this Scripture means: ‘I’m after mercy, not religion.’ I’m here to invite outsiders, not coddle insiders.” Matthew 9:13 MSG

Religion is a false promise of “peace, love, joy, etc” based on a standard of rituals. For some, even brushing their teeth can become a religious practice ‘guaranteeing’ them the prevention of tooth decay. But what happens when sixty years down the road their teeth fall out anyway? Plainly put, religion won’t keep a school principal from feeding children poisoned foods, it won’t keep someone from preforming a mass murder, and it definitely won’t keep people safe. As a matter of fact: RELIGION KILLS. (Religiously committing oneself to a habitual task without first consulting an authority figure on wellness has been proven to lead to premature death)

863 PAGES ON THE AVERAGE

There are on the average, 863 pages in the Bible and approximately 783,137 words in it. I am not going to blast you with scripture or inform you of your potential sins. But I will choose to highlight 11 words found in the Bible that if the world would read and abide by them, this world would be a safer more secure place.

“Do to others as you would have them do to you.”

What a simple statement and yet it is found buried in the “ancient” work of the Bible, as spoken by Christ. What a revolutionary and poignant prose when you take the time to consider it. Is reading the Bible beneficial? 2 Timothy says, “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness”. Reading the Bible and learning straight from the source away from “religious” institutes will profit a man’s soul. The scriptures found within it’s pages comfort, convict, establish, and equate man. “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Gal 3:28

OUT OF SIGHT OUT OF MIND

Up until 1963 the Bible and it’s primary motto, “Do to others as you would have them do to you” was taught in the American school system as a credo, a “manifesto of morality” if you will. However upon the rulings of the court this teaching along with the Bible as a whole became an “infringement of rights” and a mass exodus of the scripture was applied to our Public School System and was replaced with a “code of ethics” over a foundational standard. This article is not about wether or not this ruling was correct. This article is an attempt at illustrating that even or very BEST attempts at coming up with our own “code of ethics” does not even begin to touch the simple truth that the scripture all ready implies and provides. Removing the Bible entirely from society would actually leave us with no “code of ethics” at all due to the fact that every single principle that we as society attribute to goodness and well doing can be found within in the Bible itself!

  • “For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”*
  • “Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.”
  • “Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them.”
  • “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all your getting get understanding.”
Taking the Bible out of the schools and out of the home leaves a society grasping and reaching for boundaries, what then should take its place? It is in my opinion that the basic truths in the Bible that have shaped us thus far be reinstated and that households across the globe can impact this planet toward good instead of evil purely from being lost in a manuscript that most people file away.

PLANT THE SEED

<Shift+Enter>

No one will laugh at you, no one will think that you are uneducated or primitive. As a matter of fact when you begin to read and reread the scripture, you will probably begin to be asked questions about your new found peace of mind. If reading the Bible for some reason doesn’t bring you peace of mind, you are probably reading a version you don’t understand. Instead try reading a new version here: www.biblegateway.com and select the “Message Version” it will be an easier translation.

TAKE HEART

<Shift+Enter>

Jesus says in His Word, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Men and women who attempt to do things out of religion and for the sole purpose of financial gain will receive their just reward. The scales will balance. Regardless of your faith, religion, or lack there of – there is always a equal or greater reaction to every action done by man. It is the nature of physics. As a Bible reader I am comforted to know that Christ has overcome the world and that in every forest fire a new seed is planted and when given enough water and sun that seed will grow and bloom into a prosperous plant. The power isn’t found in the plant: the power lies within the seed!

GET SOME SLEEP!

I admit it, I’m a bit of an “organize-o-holic”. I probably have more books on organization and time management than anything else. As a matter of fact, one of the MAIN reasons I have chosen to home school our children is because of the lack of time management that I see in the Public School system. Todays post is about “how” to get all those wonderful ideas out of your head so you can get some sleep at night.

It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep. Psalm 127:2

Back in elementary school we were taught how to “bubble map” ideas in order to get them out of our head and onto an executable plan of attack. It is in my belief that one of the main reasons we go to bed at night worried, is because we have so much going on in our minds in regards to the “hows” of our lives. How do we get from A-B? How can I get a promotion? How can I get things done? In this weeks “The Word Works!” episode I will show you through bubble mapping and the process of “brain dumping” in detail how I can take an everyday task and can easily get what is in my head, out of my head and easily executable. Even with six children, I can sleep easy knowing all my “stuff” is planned and DONE! I strongly encourage you to watch and enjoy and leave your feedback or share… I hope this illustration helps you too get some much needed SLEEP! “The Get Some Sleep Episode” The Word Works!
