Christians Who Have DOMINATED in the Marketplace: MOTHER TERESA

Mother Teresa: A FRESH Perspective

Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but blessed is he who keeps the law. Proverbs 29:18

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Matt 6:33 NLT

Defining the word “MARKETPLACE”

By now I certainly hope we all know what a Christian is. A true “Christian” is NOT a religion, a true “Christian” is a follower of Christ. One who has studied the life of Christ, been saved by their confession and now practices the faith. THINKING, BELIEVING and DOING WHAT CHRIST DID. A “Christian”, has assumed his place as a Son or Daughter of God by His adoption, and has received “the mind of Christ”. So what then is “the marketplace”? Who are “Christian’s IN the marketplace”? Today we are going to learn about Mother Teresa THE marketplace DOMINATOR in the treatment and education of humanity. She was truly a “Christian in the marketplace”, because SHE SERVED AND WORKED AT THE LEVEL AND WITH REAL PEOPLE.

MARKETPLACE: A marketplace is the space, actual or metaphorical, in which a market operates.

When you think of a modern day person who personifies the ethical and benevolent treatment of humanity, most minds will think toward MOTHER TERESA as THE example. She was THE BEST at what she did. She DOMINATED the Marketplace for Jesus by… BEING THE VERY VERY BEST AT WHAT SHE DID. Mother Teresa is an EXCELT example of a Christian in “the marketplace” she didn’t just “DO” helping the poor- she dominated all aspects and confronted ALL organizations in the area of benevolence and BECAME THE go-to figurehead for the ethical and moral treatment of mankind. SHE MADE HER BUSINESS THE BUSINESS OF HELPING OUT THE POOR AND THE DYING. “A beautiful death,” she said, “is for people who lived like animals to die like angels—loved and wanted.” Who needs “riches” when you have “resources”?

So today, as we learn about Mother Teresa’s DOMINATING of HER marketplace (the development of educating society on the whole of the conditions of the poorest of the poor and providing worldwide education), let us think with a new and unadulterated view about our current jobs, or opportunities. Have you looked at your position in this world with a fresh perspective? Do you know that fresh and salt water can not bubble from the same spring? IF YOU NEED SOMETHING NEW TO HAPPEN IN YOUR LIFE, IT IS TIME TO INVEST IN A NEW PERSPECTIVE. It is time to develop YOU. YOU inc.!

So what does YOU inc. look like?

YOU inc.!

If you are ever going to BECOME the Christian in the marketplace that God has intended you to become-it is going to come from you BEGINNING TO SEE YOURSELF AS IN CHARGE OF YOUR OWN LIFE. Even though “God is the head of our lives”, it is THROUGH OUR CHOOSING TO FOLLOW HIM, THAT WE GIVE HIM THAT PLACE. We are NOT robots, and through our free will, we have now CHOSEN to follow after God (because He first loved us-we can now love and serve others WHICH IS THE ONLY TRUE WAY TO SUCCESS).

So what does YOU inc. look like? Is it in your Mission Statement to follow after God? Is it in your Purpose to do the will of your Father? Have you prayed to Him for the Vision for your life? To Reveal to YOU inc. your purpose? Or are you just “letting the chips fall where they may”. Has your job and employee status taken over YOU inc.? Have you been bullied into becoming Badge # 342789 for a living? Men and women of greatness treat whatever they are doing AS THE CURRENT ROLE of YOU inc. and NOT their identity!

If YOU inc. has been lost along the way-no worries, you can reclaim YOU inc., simply pray to God for a FRESH PERSPECTIVE and NEW REVELATION. YOU belong to GOD- NOT your boss! Choose to make God #1 TODAY, and then let Him develop you into what HE desires… a whole and completed YOU!

“I was to leave the convent and help the poor while living among them. It was an order. To fail would have been to break the faith.”

Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa (26 August 1910 – 5 September 1997), born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, was a Catholic nun of Albanian ethnicity and Indian citizenship, who founded the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India in 1950. For over 45 years she ministered to the poor, sick, orphaned, and dying, while guiding the Missionaries of Charity’s expansion, first throughout India and then in other countries. Following her death she was beatified by Pope John Paul II and given the title Blessed Teresa of Calcutta.

By the 1970s, she was internationally famed as a humanitarian and advocate for the poor and helpless, due in part to a documentary and book Something Beautiful for God by Malcolm Muggeridge. She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, in 1980 for her humanitarian work. Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity continued to expand, and at the time of her death it was operating 610 missions in 123 countries, including hospices and homes for people with HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis, soup kitchens, children’s and family counselling programs, orphanages, and schools.

Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu (gonxhe meaning “rosebud” in Albanian) was born on 26 August 1910, in Üsküb, Ottoman Empire (now Skopje, capital of the Republic of Macedonia). Although she was born on 26 August, she considered 27 August, the day she was baptized, to be her “true birthday.” She was the youngest of the children of a family from Shkodër, Albania, born to Nikollë and Drana Bojaxhiu. Her father, who was involved in Albanian politics, died in 1919 when she was eight years old. After her father’s death, her mother raised her as a Roman Catholic. Her father’s origin was possibly from Prizren, Kosovo while her mother’s origin was possibly from a village near Gjakova, Kosovo.

According to a biography by Joan Graff Clucas, in her early years Agnes was fascinated by stories of the lives of missionaries and their service in Bengal, and by age 12 was convinced that she should commit herself to a religious life. Her final resolution was taken on August 15, 1928, while praying at the shrine of the Black Madonna of Letnice, where she often went on pilgrimage.

She left home at age 18 to join the Sisters of Loreto as a missionary. She never again saw her mother or sister.

Agnes initially went to the Loreto Abbey in Rathfarnham, Ireland to learn English, the language the Sisters of Loreto used to teach school children in India. She arrived in India in 1929, and began her novitiate inDarjeeling, near the Himalayan mountains, where she learnt Bengali and taught at the St. Teresa’s School, a schoolhouse close to her convent. She took her first religious vows as a nun on 24 May 1931. At that time she chose to be named after Thérèse de Lisieux, the patron saint of missionaries, but because one nun in the convent had already chosen that name, Agnesi opted for the Spanish spelling Teresa.

She took her solemn vows on 14 May 1937, while serving as a teacher at the Loreto convent school in Entally, eastern Calcutta.Teresa served there for almost twenty years and in 1944 was appointed headmistress.

Although Teresa enjoyed teaching at the school, she was increasingly disturbed by the poverty surrounding her in Calcutta. The Bengal famine of 1943 brought misery and death to the city; and the outbreak of Hindu/Muslim violence in August 1946 plunged the city into despair and horror.

On 10 September 1946, Teresa experienced what she later described as “the call within the call” while traveling by train to the Loreto convent in Darjeeling from Calcutta for her annual retreat. “I was to leave the convent and help the poor while living among them. It was an order. To fail would have been to break the faith.”
