Did you know that the Bible talks about sleeping naked? Well, being naked anyway… Now we know why they invented PAJAMAS!
“Behold, I come like a thief! Blessed is he who stays awake and keeps his clothes with him, so that he may not go naked and be shamefully exposed.” Rev. 16:15
I guess sleeping naked is ok.. just have your clothes READY! Also, I am pretty sure that the scripture here isn’t literal commanding us to stay awake 100% of the time, and I know for certain that we HAVE to be naked occasionally, but if you notice the preface to the scripture states that Christ is going to come like a thief… and we better be ready!
I have preached to people on not sleeping naked, because of this scripture, but also because we live in California and yes there has been an occasional earthquake causing people to run out of their houses at 2am. More importantly is that we recognize in Genesis before the fall of man, we were “naked” and not ashamed.
The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame. Gen 2:25
What does this mean? Simply put it means, that the man and the woman were completely transparent to God and to each other, they had absolutely nothing to hide! (There is even some speculation among theologians questioning whether or not that Adam and Eve even had bodies! You would have to study the Hebrew word, that we get the word ‘dust’ from, that goes way deep) Adam and Eve had nothing to hide and thus they were naked and not ashamed.
When the fall of man came, and sin was now present, Adam and Eve ran to the bushes to hide. The Lord asked them, “Who told you you were naked?” and they had no response, because they knew they were naked and they were ashamed, sadly they had disappointed and disobeyed His command. In their shame, they avoided responsibility and thus the mantle of shame has stayed on mankind to this day… until Christ.
Christ came to expose our sin to us. When you become a Christian and start reading His Word, you are immediately convicted. It is my position as a teacher, not to convict anyone of what they are doing, I merely teach them how to read the Word for themselves and allow God’s perfect Word to do the convicting. If someone comes up to me and asks me, “HEY! What do you think about ‘xyz’?” I will always respond, “Well, the Word of God says ‘this’…” This opens the door for further communication and really tests the waters. More than a water tester, I believe that the Bible is the final authority and so I, in a very unassuming way, practice “slipping the truth past their ego and into their subconscious mind.”
Some Christians consider this subtle approach as weak and ineffective. I, however have learned in my 30 years of ‘Christian’ experience that people are hurting. They are under the yoke of sin and burdened by fear. Everywhere they turn they are tempted to live a life full of shame. These are my brothers, and sisters, and I have seen from the richest to the poorest that a simple and a friendly word opens all doors. From the cashier who smiles at Tiger Woods as he is in line at the pharmacy, to the neighbor who smiles at the homeless man, love is the gateway to the soul, more “Christian’s” need to understand this.
The bottom line, is Christ is coming like a thief in the night, quickly, unabated, on purpose and on point. If He takes our running out of the house to greet Him, being seen as ‘naked’ in front of our brothers and sisters as shameful exposition, than WE
SERIOUSLY MUST WATCH OUR COMPLETE TRANSPARENCY OR WE JUST MIGHT MISS IT ENTIRELY! Serious?! I mean come on, Revelations is telling us to always be ready, to the point of putting jammies on to bed, then what about if He comes and I am in that movie house… or reading that material… or surfing the net… or having sex with a lover… oh my!
If we live our lives purely, as if at any moment the Lord will come for us, in hope of His return, not only does it benefit us in the long term, it benefits us in the short term too. Our health, living long lives, and our daily wisdom. Living a life exposed insures to us that we will be the right people, in the right place, at the right time for His coming!
I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown. Rev 3:11
A prayer for today,
Thank you Lord that Your Word is sufficient for me. That I am a living example and know that as long as I live a life exposed to You, I will be found pure and Holy without shame. I do not want to sin anymore, it burdens us and keeps us awake at night in sleepless desperation. It is my desire to be found shameless at any minute of any day, no matter what it is I am doing. No longer do I allow myself to be convinced my the devil and by others that I have to “do” something wrong. THIS IS MY LIFE AND I WILL BEGIN TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY OF IT! You are coming back to find us all as individuals, and I know now that I do not answer to anyone but You. Before I rebelled against You, now I desire to rebel with You… You and me against the world! AMEN!”
God Bless you today, as you learn to say “no” and get some new jammies, (LOL)!
