“Those who stand for nothing, fall for anything” – Alexander Hamilton

“An individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for the law.” – Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

“You’re not getting by with anything. Every refusal and avoidance of God adds fuel to the fire. The day is coming when it’s going to blaze hot and high, God’s fiery and righteous judgment. Make no mistake: In the end you get what’s coming to you—Real Life for those who work on God’s side, but to those who insist on getting their own way and take the path of least resistance, Fire!” Ro. 2:5-8 MSG

This version calls it “real life,” the Old King James calls it, “eternal life.” So here we have it in print, that resistance will come to those who work on God’s side. It does not come to those who insist on getting their own way.

What a deal, huh? Why on earth would anyone choose to be on a team with the most resistance? I will illustrate some examples of resistance being both beneficial and God’s way of doing things,

  • The ant who on his way to his hill must cross trenches, climb boulders, and go through “seas”.
  • The eagle who must soar for hours with his wings in a lock position until he spies his meal from a mile away.
  • The plant that must push through multiple layers of soil in order to reach to the sky.
  • The caterpillar that must spend its whole life preparing to be wrapped into a cocoon, only to morph into an entirely new creation.
  • The tadpole that becomes a bullfrog.
  • The expectant mother that goes from two into one, upon baby delivery.
  • The fact that we, as human beings on average grow from 20 inches (at birth) to an alarming 69 inches for adult men, 63 inches for adult women.

Resistance is everywhere. It is in the natural order of things to grow, change, and push through to the other side. Sometimes we push through resistance physically (consider the Wright Brothers and the law of gravity), and sometimes we must push through resistance mentally (consider Helen Keller and her astounding story), and sometimes we even have to push through the spiritual realm (consider Jesus and his death and resurrection). Resistance is a part of life, and I am here to tell you that those who continue to embrace resistance and recognize that it is the birthing process of all things great, those who embrace resistance are in store for a REAL LIFE!

Physical Resistance

  • Physical resistance: “I can’t do it. I shouldn’t be able to do it. I am not built to do it.”
  • Scriptural response: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, if God be for me who can be against me.” (Phil 4:13, Ro. 8:31)

George Washington Carver was born into slavery, a sick and nearly dying infant. He and his mother were kidnapped from the plantation until his owner sent a bounty hunter to find them. The hunter found George only and returned him. There the woman of the house nurtured him and raised him as her own. At ten years old he left (having been freed to do so), and went on to work odd jobs paying is way through college. He became one of the foremost horticulturalist in history and is to this date most accredited with his invention of Peanut Butter. “How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these. ” – George Washington Carver

Mental Resistance

  • Mental resistance: “I have always been told I would be nothing. I can not do anything, I am dumb.”
  • Scriptural Response:“I am made a new creation, old things have passed away, behold all things are new. Through God and His anointing power, I know all things, and I have the mind of Christ.” (2 Cor. 5:17, 1 John 2:20, 1 Cor. 2:16)

Helen Adams Keller was not initially born blind and deaf. It wasn’t until she was 19 months old that she developed a sickness that caused her to be left “disabled”. While no one could understand her as a child, she learned over 60 signs to others to get what she wanted. It was in this state of childlike demand and acquisition that the now famous teacher Anne Sullivan, came to work with her. Anne and Helen remained good friends for 49 years, Anne taking all excuses away from an insolent child, and Helen embracing the thought of having “no physical limitations”. Later on in life Helen and her husband spent their lives raising money and awareness for the blind. Do not forget she could neither hear nor speak, and yet she still learned to communicate. “As selfishness and complaint pervert the mind, so love with its joy clears and sharpens the vision.” – Helen Keller

Spiritual Resistance

  • Spiritual resistance: “I can not explain it, but “something” keeps holding me back. It is like for generations we have been cursed!”
  • Scriptural response: “Who the Son sets free is free indeed. We take full authority in the name of Jesus to cast down all evil things that attempt to exalt themselves above the Word of God, I have been given the power to cast out demons. The devil has been defeated, and I am free!” (John 8:36, 2 Cor. 10:5, Luke 11:19, Rev. 1:18)

Proverbs 26:2 says that a “causeless” curse does not come. Which means ultimately that curses have come on families, or individuals due to someone who in the family at one time has received and began acting in a way in which to bring curse upon the family. What is that curse? According to Deuteronomy 28:15-68 (goes into great detail), the curse is lack, poverty, starvation, poor relationships, cursed families, etc. The question then remains why? The answer is found in the fact that the people of God began to take credit for all things themselves, and ceased to recognize God as the source of their prosperity, health, survival. Generational curses can come as a result of this, simply in the manner that is what the children have been taught. If your Grandfather taught you that he was a “self-made” man, and you can be too, chances are your family is operating in a cursed environment and as scripture earlier stated those who attempt to insist on having things “their” way take the path of least resistance, and will end up in the lake of fire. The call to action is repentance, and deliverance. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. 2 Cor. 10:4-6 Ask God for deliverance, and for Him to rebuke the enemy from your life, and begin to seek out His Word for a new you. You have been given the mind of Christ!

When Ollie was a young woman, she used to crawl around the church floor and pull her dress over her head in the middle of service. Her mother was a cotton picker. She would pick cotton daily as her husband was in bed, a self-professed invalid. After around 100 pounds of cotton, she would receive a dollar. Ollie’s mother would tithe on that dollar in respect an honor to God. At around 18 years old simple little “Ollie” was delivered from her spiritual oppression when she received Christ. Slowly and steadily she increased in scriptural knowledge, until she met a man and was able to get married. Her husband was called out to war one day, and while he was gone he sent her his pay checks. She continued to tithe and pray and sow while he was gone. The Lord gave her wisdom and while he was away she began buying real estate. As it turned out Ollie and her husband became the leading financial contributors to their small Oklahoma town. When people needed loans, it wasn’t long before they began to look to Ollie! (Source: Kenneth Haggin Ministries)

It is my hope today, as I share with you these stories of deliverance, that you would notice whether physical, mental, or spiritual, deliverance is always available to us and resistance is a part of life. If anyone of the above mentioned persons would have “accepted their lot in life” George, Helen, or Ollie, they could have lived a very unfettered existence. However, since they choose to overcome and succeed in the midst of resistance. they not only began to benefit themselves, they also began to benefit humanity and educating others on the hope for eternity!

A prayer for today,
Father God, bless your children. Give them the childlike faith that they need to overcome their battles. Help them to understand that resistance is a part of life, and that as they overcome resistance, they are charting their destinies as world changers and humanity influencers! Beyond just humanity however, show them that what they do as over-comers will be carried with them into eternity. There is that scripture that says “A good man leaves an inheritance for his children’s children.”, and we pray Lord that we would be found good in Your sight. That what we teach our children is worthy to be blessed, and not cursed. Search my heart and my spirit Father. If You find anything unworthy or any spirit other than that of You and Your Word, I pray that You would rebuke it, and cast it out of me. I want to be pure before You and I believe that You will cleanse me, and make me whole in You. I commit to do the work necessary in learning everything I can about You, and know that I am free from all satanic oppression, I am eager to get started! Show me where to begin! In Your Son Jesus’ name, AMEN!”

God Bless you today as you are delivered and embrace the path of most resistance!
