Many of us have at one time or another have been wounded so deep that there seems to be no cure. For example, a deep seeded scar or an amputation of some type. Many of us can find something in us that we don’t like, or that we feel is missing, never to return again. Neither band aid’s, nor cover-ups will mend our spirits, and what we really need is recovery and re-identification.

This message was originally part of a series five day series, here is Day FIVE:

He has sent me to…set at liberty them that are bruised. Luke 4:18

In Maxwell Maltz’ book Psycho-Cybernetics, A New Way to Get More Living Out of Life, the author, a world renowned plastic surgeon goes deep into the psyche of man, having been curious as to how people think. He was constantly surprised as a physician how a person could go in for plastic surgery on a facial scar, have the surgery, and come out having it barely be noticeable. Unfortunately though they would still maintain focus on the miniscule scar and imperfection left behind destining themselves to live in shame. When on the other hand a completely disfigured person, with a positive outlook could look in the mirror and though they were still traditionally “disfigured” they could only see only improvement. His book is an amazing telling on the human brain and how our positive/negitive outlooks in life affect our persona.

Jesus said that he “came to set at liberty them that are bruised.” A bruise, as we know is the deepest type of wound. A wound beneath the surface. Some bruises can go down to the bone, and most bruises do not heal for extended lengths of time. Emotional bruising, can last permanently. As in Dr. Maltz’ observations, the woman with the barely traceable scar had been bruised to her psyche, her bruise becoming her identity. She could not see past it, she had in turn become marked for life regardless of how many surgeries she may have had.

Jesus came to teach us how to life apart from self. He taught us how to take our eyes off of our bruises and how to help those that may be bruised. At this point if you have spent your whole life identified by an “it episode, or a that episode” you have not yet been set at liberty by Christ. Choose to live and walk as Jesus, and you have chosen a new identity.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Cor 5:17

Day FIVE: The Bible says ‘All Wounds Can Heal’

Jesus’ death on the cross was as a sacrifice, the Bible teaches us that as soon as He died the ‘enmity’ in man died with Him. (Eph. 2:17-18) Enmity is a big fancy word meaning, “hostility to someone else”. Jesus died and along with Him went all hostility between man. (Whether or not to live holy or unholy. This decision has become plain through Christ’s example upon His death and the way that He died. Christ took away all of mans excuses) If we decide to walk in that kind of peace and freedom from hostility, we walk like Jesus. When/if we decide to continue to walk in hostility, and hold onto our bruised emotions, we walk not as Christ, but as mere men.

Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Eph 5:1

“Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Matt 5:48

Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. 1 Cor 11:1

Join with others in following my example, brothers, and take note of those who live according to the pattern we gave you. Phil 3:17

And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good? 1 Peter 3:13

How are we ever going to shed the identity of our bruised lives unless we begin to walk like Christ? Loving others, and treating them as we would want to be treated. Being merciful and allowing for others to come to us and for us to be able to fed them. Christ was not a stand alone bystander, He was a walking, talking, thinking, breathing healing. He never walked in bruising He walked in healing. This means that His identity was 100% well and righteous, and never once did He allow Himself to walk in the arena of offense or the self-imposed sorrow, even though He had every reason to…

– His parents were not married when his mother became pregnant
– His father was a carpenter
– He was born in a stable
– He was lost as a boy (left behind)
– His best-friend died
– Starved in the dessert
– Tempted by all evil, including and not limited to lust, greed and potential ungodly power
– He was beaten, bruised, condemned, mocked, imprisoned, and crucified by his own people

Never once, did Jesus allow ANY I will repeat ANY calamity in His life effect His identity of who He was He was Jesus and in His own Words He said, “I and my Father are ONE.” John 10:30. Jesus, saw Himself as God and in God. God was in Jesus and Jesus. He and the Father were ONE. We are called to be one with the Father, in this very same way. We are to be “perfect”. Matt 5:48

How then can we be “perfect” if we are still stuck by some bruise of the past? With attitudes like, “I can’t, I shouldn’t, I mustn’t” who needs a devil? It is time for us to move on, to allow God to do a work in us that can only be done by accepting His Son. If we have accepted His Son, and still walk bruised, than it is time for a new identity. Scripture calls this “renewing or minds”. We must renew our minds with The Word of God and the success doctrine that goes with it, in order to combat the 80%+ of negativity that we are bombarded with daily. Between the news, idle gossips at coffee houses (the modern 1980’s ‘cooler’), radio, television, and other media we are inundated with BAD and negative information… we are continuing to puncture our bruises ourselves! IT IS TIME TO HEAL! Let the Lord heal you today!! That bruise will go away, as you put the Healing of the Word of God in you. Read the Word, begin in the book of John, find out exactly how Jesus lived and died for you and your all of your bruises!

May Jehovah God bless you today in our last day in this series of ‘The Bible’, there is still so much to learn!
