I interviewed my 12 year old on the subject of fear a few months ago, I wanted to do this as 2 Tim 1:7 is his favorite scripture:

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. 2 Tim 1:7

After September 11, 2001, here in America there was a large outcry from our people. The church that we went to HEAVILY pressed into this scripture, and the motto “No fear here!” became our motto. In the video that Jeffrey and I did together, he as a child, stated it so simply. He basically said, “If you are [free from fear] than you are.” In other words, if the Bible says it- than it settles it!

As soon as you understand and believe the Bible to be the Word of God you understand that you have a POWERFUL tool! As John Avanzini says, “This book isn’t just ABOUT somebody.. it IS SOMEBODY!” (John 1:1)

Anytime you belong to a church or an organization that claims to know how to read or interpret the Word better than you, (encouraging you to not read it for yourself) you are involved in an organization that considers the Word inspired, not the final say!

Man can justify anything. We can find a reason to allow anything to happen, you could probably even find selective scriptures to back it. We however, read the Bible as a WHOLE. For thousands of years, men have taken God’s Word to use it for their own gain, saying “WE believe his is ok, and this is NOT ok…” When in reality the WORD of GOD is HIS WORD and there is no excuse to add to it, or to take away from it!

I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. Rev 22:18-19

So what is in this book? This awesome book of God???

Do not be afraid; you will not suffer shame. Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated. Isaiah 54:4

“Do not fear, O Zion; do not let your hands hang limp. The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:16-17

But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened.” 1 Peter 3:14

“Hear me, you who know what is right, you people who have my law in your hearts: Do not fear the reproach of men or be terrified by their insults. For the moth will eat them up like a garment; the worm will devour them like wool. But my righteousness will last forever, my salvation through all generations.” Isaiah 51: 7-8

It is my prayer today that you would be recharged and strengthened by the Word of God, and that you would desire to read it as a whole, and for yourself. Start by reading the Gospel of John, learn for yourself about eternal life, the walk of Jesus, and how the Word and His sufferings plays out in the history of redemption. God is in control and from Genesis to Revelation the Bible is a history, and God is telling us His love for us and His prophecy of redemption. It is my prayer today that you would find comfort in its pages, and that you will never have to live in fear AGAIN! God said it, and that settles it!
