It’s Time to FLY!

“An idol of the mind is as offensive to God as an idol of the hand.” A.W. Tozer

You Are A Product of Your Thoughts

Have you recently found yourself desiring a major change to occur in your life? Have you been hoping for a healing, a promotion, increased finances, or even a better attitude?

“The thoughts in your mind will always be more important than the things in your life.” John Maxwell

Understanding that you are a product of your thoughts is an easy thing to understand, when you take the time to consider the butterfly. The butterfly is NEVER really a caterpillar, though we call his worm like state “caterpillar”, the butterfly is ALWAYS a butterfly. It is what is IN him that counts.

The Wise Old Woman

I read this story yesterday in John Maxwell’s book, Today Matters:

A friend e-mailed to me the story of a very “together” and independent ninety-two-year-old lady who was moving into a nursing home. Since she was legally blind and her husband of seventy years had passed away, the move was her only option. She waited in the lobby of the facility for a long time before finally being told that her room was ready. As she was escorted down the corridor, her attendant described the room, down to the curtains hung on the windows.

“I love it,” the elderly lady enthused.

“But you haven’t seen the room yet. Just wait.” the attendant responded.

“That doesn’t have anything to do with it,” she replied. “Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn’t depend on how the furniture is arranged. It’s how I arrange my mind.” Pg 49

What truth! How we perceive things is how they will be! Jesus reminds us in Luke 6:42 that until we overcome our preconceived notions about ourselves, we will never be able to see the value in others let alone ourselves! Changing our inner picture is the key to changing our outward circumstances.

“Circumstances are nothing but the circle you are standing in.” Pastor John Avanzini

“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” Proverbs 23:7

An Eagle Who Thought He Was A Chicken

I once read a story about an eagle who had become grounded at a farm, for whatever reason the eagle had injured itself and had began associating with a brood of chickens.  It wasn’t long before the eagle began hunting and pecking just as a chicken! The farmer knew no different, and had been convinced that the different looking chicken was a chicken after all it acted just like one!

One day a man from a near by mountain top came to visit the farmer and saw this peculiar sight, a mighty eagle acting just like a chicken! The mountain man laughed and said, “Why is that eagle acting like a chicken?”

The farmer responded, “That’s no eagle, that’s a chicken!”

The mountain man then said, “I guarantee you that your “chicken” is no chicken and I will prove it!”

Accepting the challenge, the two men began working with the chicken-eagle. The mountain man took the bird and threw it in the air. The bird heavily fell to the ground. The farmer laughed. The mountain man took the bird out of the pen nearby and set it “free”, the bird continued to hunt and peck. Finally he had a final thought, he decided to take the bird up to the mountain.

Up on the top of the mountain, where the air was clear and the wind was cool, something in the bird began to stir. His wings started to flinch like they had never flinched before. The bird’s heart pounded in its chest. The mountain man then took the bird and looking at it said, “Eagle, you are an eagle. You hunt and fly and soar high above the clouds. You do not belong on the ground. You were made for greatness.” With that the mountain man threw the eagle up into the air and with a loud SCREEECH the eagle began to soar!

As long as only chickens continued to surround the mighty eagle in this story, the eagle considered himself a chicken. No matter the fact that God had designed him to soar.

What Are Your Limiting Thoughts?

So what is holding you back? What are your limiting thoughts? Are you too broke, too uneducated, too old, too young, too inexperienced, or too sick? Today is a day to rebuke and rebut any and all negative and limiting thoughts, and to begin to allow our Christ like metamorphosis’ to freely transpire. YOU WERE MADE IN THE IMAGE OF GOD, NOW IT IS TIME TO SOAR!

*The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 8:21

It CAN Be Done!

A house divided against itself cannot stand” Abraham Lincoln

“And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” Eccl 4:12

When was the last time you picked a fight with someone? Today, yesterday… hopefully never! Sometimes though even if we don’t try to pick fights, we end up staring down the barrel of a fruitless conversation attempting to “get out of it” just like an animal in a trap. Things escalate, and before you know it words are flying like jagged ammunition and offenses are taken that may take years to recover from.

“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.” Proverbs 17:22 NLT

A broken spirit has NO strength, and that is why understanding where a spouse or friend is coming from in your argument/conversation is so important. Are they hungry, angry, lonely or tired? Has their day been AWFUL, has a family member passed away or have they recently undergone an identity shift like lost a job? Hurting people hurt people, and are easily hurt BY people.

“Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.” Matt 18:19

If you and your spouse or loved ones (hey even your boss) have been out-of-sync lately, what CAN you agree on? Is there a direction, plan or purpose that you are working on? How about the kids, the house or your family time? What CAN you agree on? At your work, do you and your boss agree that sales need to go up, or that you need to be on time to the office? Finding common ground is a GREAT start toward coming into agreement.

“Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.”

What a great promise! The power of agreement is so strong that anything is possible! Getting a couple divided is probably the devil’s number one tactic in destroying relationships.

How can he influence, infect and attack your agreement? How can he divide your house?

  • To convince you that everyone else is out to get you
  • To convince you that your opinion is the ONLY right one
  • To convince you that you are better off without relationships
  • To convince you that life without others is easier
  • To convince you that no one understands you
  • To convince you that no one loves you or understands you

This list can go on and on, and it is all in attempt to get you out of harmony with others. Self-serving thoughts and actions take away from us the power of agreement and can cause us to become impotent in our ability to do for God the work that He has for us to do. Successful relationships, marriages, families and employment all stem from a rooted relationship in agreement with one another. Try getting in agreement TODAY.

The power of agreement is SO strong that people can end up aligning themselves with the WRONG associates and can do a tremendous amount of damage. Ever notice how with bullies for every one good kid there are three or more bully attackers? Why is that so? It is because the devil uses the power of agreement when encouraging people to do bad things, and he allows this agreement to continue.

While the devil does everything he can to discord Christians, he will do anything in his power to unite un-believers. “Clubs”, “Organizations”, “Conspiracies”, “Groups” etc. can all be used in unifying the enemy to achieve his tactics. ALWAYS use the Word of God as THE final authority when coming into agreement with someone, even your boss. There are plenty of jobs out there for God’s people who choose to walk in faith.

“A good character is the best tombstone. Those who loved you and were helped by you will remember you when forget-me-nots have withered. Carve your name on hearts, not on marble.” Charles Spurgeon

Archeology has always amazed me. The thought of mankind having lived for decades… even centuries before our generation is just mind-boggling! I believe it must be only by the grace of God that we as a race have made it this far!

Close to my house we have an Egyptian History Museum, which holds artifacts thousands upon thousands of years old, and to see so many things that were used then being used today is truly remarkable! What kind of things? Jewelry, makeup containers, clothing, art, wigs, dolls, toys, all  preserved and all visible for us to see today! WOW!

Last summer as I was reading a book on the History of the Bible, the author went on to explain how the city of Ur had been discovered in the 1930’s. (Ur was the city in which Father Abraham was from and also the oldest mentioned city in the Bible. Ur is found in Genesis 11:28, Genesis 11:31, and Genesis 15:7.) Abram had to leave the home of his fathers (Ur) in order to become the Abraham that we know today. What a discovery! A modern day “Atlantis” Thinking of all this archeology kind of makes you feel like “Indian Jones”, doesn’t it?

Today’s POWER PACKED WORD*: Indelible

Definition: indelible |inˈdeləbəl| adjective (of ink or a pen) making marks that cannot be removed.

Scripture of the day: Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever.” John 8:35

“But because Jesus lives forever, his priesthood lasts forever.” Hebrews 7:24

“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!” Isaiah 49:15

Today’s Positive Words of Affirmation and Encouraging Words to Live By: “I am going to make an indelible mark on society today. I am going to leave the earth a better place than I found it.”

 The ruins of Ur-Nassiriyah

Take a moment if you will to look at the above picture and study it. History dates the building of Ur’s temple in this picture to the 21rst Century BC. That means that the city of Ur was established 2000+ years BEFORE the birth of Christ! That is a long time ago! The question after all these years about Ur is, “Can you still see it?” YES! Look at the bricks that were laid, and the neat rows and walls! Excavators have even found broken bits of pottery, drawings and many other signs of civilization. This indicates to me that people were and are here to stay! We are PERMANENT fixtures not only to the planet, but also so important enough to God the Father that we may leave stories behind for all to discover many years past our lives!

Understanding that the Lord desires for us to be remembered, and that our legacies will pass unto our children’s children is a sobering thought especially when you take into consideration the modern day ideology that we should strive to leave NO IMPACT on this earth.

In a day when everything is recyclable and all things are “biodegradable” some people even go to the extreme of ‘minimizing their carbon footprints’ by not having children at all! It is a sad state to be living in where we have become so persuaded to ‘protect’ that we are all but attempting to snuff ourselves out!

Don’t get me wrong, I am FOR recycling, as I believe that the Lord is not wasteful and that He has given us the earth to take care of, but I do believe that we all must work on making marks in this time and on this earth that cannot be erased.

Bibli-cycling is a word that the Lord brought to me as I was pondering the right amount of care for the earth, and the right amount of impression we are to leave on it. What might be the characteristics of a Bibli-cycler?

  • One who always leaves a positive impression on the minds of others
  • One who passes along quality items to others (furniture, clothing, jewelry)
  • One who recognizes value in their assets (vs. going for disposable and carelessly made objects)
  • One who understands that less is more and that it is better to give than to hoard
  • One who has a story or impression to tell onto others and isn’t to timid to share it (I bet you will never forget the story of Grandpa doing xyz)
  • One who uses the technology of the day to leave positive digital imprints, i.e. utilizing the internet, printed media, video to deliver a message of hope and Christ for generations to be able to read and to see

Today is a day to begin thinking toward permanence. Recycle those things that truly are trash, donate the things that you no longer use (before they become trash), and most of all begin building memories with your family that are indelible on their hearts. You see the Lord will NEVER forget you, and as long as you live your life righteously and in the service of your fellow man, neither will others!

*The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 8:21

“Christ richly bestows His light upon those who are zealous for the glory of His name.” – Father John of Kronstadt

When the Bible says that “without God nothing was made that was made” [John 1:3], it means that He is the Father of all creation, in both the spiritual and the physical realm. God created it all. He created the trees, the animals, the minerals, the vegetables… etc. If you are reading this right now, here is some news for you… you are NOT a zucchini.

Today’s POWER PACKED WORD*: Zealous!

Definition: zealous |ˈzeləs | zealous |ˈzeləs |: having or showing zeal, enthusiastic

Scripture of the day:“And whatsoever ye do, do [it] heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23 KJV

Today’s Positive Words of Affirmation and Encouraging Words to Live By: “I do everything I can to glorify the Lord, I am zealous in regards to life, I will never take another day for granted again.”

“A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God” 1 Cor 11:7

God had a few choices when He decided to create you. He could have decided to create you as an angel, an animal (or some other type of created ‘thing’), a human being, or not at all. God in His infinite plan however decided to give you the ultimate gift, the gift of human life. He created you in HIS IMAGE. He didn’t have to… He chose to.

“What is man that you make so much of him, that you give him so much attention?” Job 7:17

“So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created Him; male and female He created them.” Genesis 1:27

In one of my favorite books of all time, The Greatest Miracle in the World the author, Og Mandino illustrates to us in His God Memorandum just how important to God we are:

“To: YOU

From: GOD

Let us take inventory. Let us, first, call a roll of your handicaps. For how can I ask you to build a new life lest you have the tools?

Are you blind? Does the sun rise and fall without your witness?

No. You can see … and the hundred million receptors I have placed in your eyes enable you to enjoy the magic of a leaf, a snowflake, a pond, an eagle, a child, a cloud, a star, a rose, a rainbow … and the look of love. Count one blessing.

Are you deaf? Can a baby laugh or cry without your attention?

No. You can hear … and the twenty-four thousand fibers I have built in each of your ears vibrate to the wind in the trees, the tides on the rocks, the majesty of an opera, a robin’s plea, children at play … and the words I love you. Count another blessing.

Are you mute? Do your lips move and bring forth only spittle?

No. You can speak … as can no other of my creatures, and your words can calm the angry, uplift the despondent, goad the quitter, cheer the unhappy, warm the lonely, praise the worthy, encourage the defeated, teach the ignorant … and say I love you. Count another blessing.

Are you paralyzed? Does your helpless form despoil the land?

No. You can move. You are not a tree condemned to a small plot while the wind and world abuses you. You can stretch and run and dance and work, for within you I have designed five hundred muscles, two hundred bones, and seven miles of nerve fiber all synchronized by me to do your bidding. Count another blessing.

Are you unloved and unloving? Does loneliness engulf you, night and day?

No. No more. For now you know love’s secret, that to receive love it must be given with no thought of its return. To love for fulfillment, satisfaction, or pride is no love. Love is a gift on which no return is demanded. Now you know that to love unselfishly is its own reward. And even should love not be returned it is not lost, for love not reciprocated will flow back to you and soften and purify your heart. Count another blessing. Count twice.

Is your heart stricken? Does it leak and strain to maintain your life?

No. Your heart is strong. Touch your chest and feel its rhythm, pulsating, hour after hour, day and night, thirty-six million beats each year, year after year, asleep or awake, pumping your blood through more than sixty thousand miles of veins, arteries, and tubing … pumping more than six hundred thousand gallons each year. Man has never created such a machine. Count another blessing.

Are you diseased of skin? Do people turn in horror when you approach?

No. Your skin is clear and a marvel of creation, needing only that you tend it with soap and oil and brush and care. In time all steels will tarnish and rust, but not your skin. Eventually the strongest of metals will wear, with use, but not that layer that I have constructed around you. Constantly it renews itself, old cells replaced by new, just as the old you is now replaced by the new. Count another blessing.

Are your lungs befouled? Does your breath of life struggle to enter your body?

No. Your portholes to life support you even in the vilest of environments of your own making, and they labor always to filter life-giving oxygen through six hundred million pockets of folded flesh while they rid your body of gaseous wastes. Count another blessing.

Is your blood poisoned? Is it diluted with water and pus?

No. Within your five quarts of blood are twenty-two trillion blood cells and within each cell are millions of molecules and within each molecule is an atom oscillating at more than ten million times each second. Each second, two million of your blood cells die to be replaced by two million more in a resurrection that has continued since your first birth. As it has always been inside, so now it is on your outside. Count another blessing.

Are you feeble of mind? Can you no longer think for yourself?

No. Your brain is the most complex structure in the universe. I know. Within its three pounds are thirteen billion nerve cells, more than three times as many cells as there are people on your earth. To help you file away every perception, every sound, every taste, every smell, every action you have experienced since the day of your birth, I have implanted, within your cells, more than one thousand billion billion protein molecules. Every incident in your life is there waiting only your recall. And, to assist your brain in the control of your body I have dispersed, throughout your form, four million pain-sensitive structures, five hundred thousand touch detectors, and more than two hundred thousand temperature detectors. No nation’s gold is better protected than you. None of your ancient wonders are greater than you.

You are my finest creation.”**

It has been a while since I have written to you, my dear friends. While I was away I enjoyed a wonderful vacation, I embraced my children, I even lived without a computer (due to technical difficulties) for a quite some time. In all that rest and recovery however, I worked diligently to not spend a day listlessly.

Living life as a zealous human being that is aware that they are unique, are special are IMPORTANT, is what we are CALLED to do. “In WHATSOEVER you do, do it heartily (in the original Greek we find in this stanza the word ‘psyche’) as unto the Lord, and not unto man.”

Today, let us commit everything we do deep into the psyche of ourselves unto the Lord as our Father, our employer and most of all our Creator. Be zealous! about your life, God, and living for Him… and the scripture says, “you shall receive the reward of your inheritance.” What is this inheritance? An eternal life with Christ Jesus! In this zealousness we are able to walk from Glory unto Glory, AMEN!
