How Reading the Bible Can Heal ALL Your Wounds

Many of us have at one time or another have been wounded so deep that there seems to be no cure. For example, a deep seeded scar or an amputation of some type. Many of us can find something in us that we don’t like, or that we feel is missing, never to return again. Neither band aid’s, nor cover-ups will mend our spirits, and what we really need is recovery and re-identification.

This message was originally part of a series five day series, here is Day FIVE:

Day FIVE: The Bible says ‘All Wounds Can Heal’

He has sent me to…set at liberty them that are bruised. Luke 4:18

YOU CAN DECIDE TO CHANGE YOUR IDENTITY

In Maxwell Maltz’ book Psycho-Cybernetics, A New Way to Get More Living Out of Life, the author, a world renowned plastic surgeon goes deep into the psyche of man, having been curious as to how people think. He was constantly surprised as a physician how a person could go in for plastic surgery on a facial scar, have the surgery, and come out having it barely be noticeable. Unfortunately though they would still maintain focus on the miniscule scar and imperfection left behind destining themselves to live in shame. When on the other hand a completely disfigured person, with a positive outlook could look in the mirror and though they were still traditionally “disfigured” they could only see only improvement. His book is an amazing telling on the human brain and how our positive/negitive outlooks in life affect our persona.

Jesus said that he “came to set at liberty them that are bruised.” A bruise, as we know is the deepest type of wound. A wound beneath the surface. Some bruises can go down to the bone, and most bruises do not heal for extended lengths of time. Emotional bruising, can last permanently. As in Dr. Maltz’ observations, the woman with the barely traceable scar had been bruised to her psyche, her bruise becoming her identity. She could not see past it, she had in turn become marked for life regardless of how many surgeries she may have had.

Jesus came to teach us how to life apart from self. He taught us how to take our eyes off of our bruises and how to help those that may be bruised. At this point if you have spent your whole life identified by an “it episode, or a that episode” you have not yet been set at liberty by Christ. Choose to live and walk as Jesus, and you have chosen a new identity.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Cor 5:17

HE DIED ON THE CROSS SO YOU COULD LIVE FREE

Jesus’ death on the cross was as a sacrifice, the Bible teaches us that as soon as He died the ‘enmity’ in man died with Him. (Eph. 2:17-18) Enmity is a big fancy word meaning, “hostility to someone else”. Jesus died and along with Him went all hostility between man. (Whether or not to live holy or unholy. This decision has become plain through Christ’s example upon His death and the way that He died. Christ took away all of mans excuses) If we decide to walk in that kind of peace and freedom from hostility, we walk like Jesus. When/if we decide to continue to walk in hostility, and hold onto our bruised emotions, we walk not as Christ, but as mere men.

WE ARE CALLED TO BE IMITATORS OF CHRIST

Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Eph 5:1

“Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Matt 5:48

Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. 1 Cor 11:1

Join with others in following my example, brothers, and take note of those who live according to the pattern we gave you. Phil 3:17

And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good? 1 Peter 3:13

How are we ever going to shed the identity of our bruised lives unless we begin to walk like Christ? Loving others, and treating them as we would want to be treated. Being merciful and allowing for others to come to us and for us to be able to fed them. Christ was not a stand alone bystander, He was a walking, talking, thinking, breathing healing. He never walked in bruising He walked in healing. This means that His identity was 100% well and righteous, and never once did He allow Himself to walk in the arena of offense or the self-imposed sorrow, even though He had every reason to…

JESUS THE MAN

– His parents were not married when his mother became pregnant
– His father was a carpenter
– He was born in a stable
– He was lost as a boy (left behind)
– His best-friend died
– Starved in the dessert
– Tempted by all evil, including and not limited to lust, greed and potential ungodly power
– He was beaten, bruised, condemned, mocked, imprisoned, and crucified by his own people

AND YET HE LOVED ANYWAY, AND PASSED EVERY TEST

Never once, did Jesus allow ANY I will repeat ANY calamity in His life effect His identity of who He was He was Jesus and in His own Words He said, “I and my Father are ONE.” John 10:30. Jesus, saw Himself as God and in God. God was in Jesus and Jesus. He and the Father were ONE. We are called to be one with the Father, in this very same way. We are to be “perfect”. Matt 5:48

How then can we be “perfect” if we are still stuck by some bruise of the past? With attitudes like, “I can’t, I shouldn’t, I mustn’t” who needs a devil? It is time for us to move on, to allow God to do a work in us that can only be done by accepting His Son. If we have accepted His Son, and still walk bruised, than it is time for a new identity. Scripture calls this “renewing or minds”. We must renew our minds with The Word of God and the success doctrine that goes with it, in order to combat the 80%+ of negativity that we are bombarded with daily. Between the news, idle gossips at coffee houses (the modern 1980’s ‘cooler’), radio, television, and other media we are inundated with BAD and negative information… we are continuing to puncture our bruises ourselves! IT IS TIME TO HEAL! Let the Lord heal you today!! That bruise will go away, as you put the Healing of the Word of God in you. Read the Word, begin in the book of John, find out exactly how Jesus lived and died for you and your all of your bruises!

May Jehovah God bless you today in our last day in this series of ‘The Bible’, there is still so much to learn!,

Stuck Christians “Share Knives”

Never one to avoid topics of interest, today is a day to face the facts… STUCK CHRISTIANS SHARE KNIVES.

A Lesson From Booker T. Washington

In his phenomenal book Up From Slavery, Booker T. Washington (educator, author, orator, and political leader and representative of the last generation of black leaders born into slavery) tells a very emotional and true story of the state of mind that the newly freed slaves were stuck in, after the newly enforced Emancipation Proclamation.

As an educator and humanity benefactor, Booker T. would travel into his local community educating house by house the newly freed persons of his generation. The people of the South were in a transient state from being enslaved to now free. He explains in his book how the slave owners and slaves both were severally and oddly negatively affected by the emancipation. The slave owners had no IDEA how to work, and the slaves had no IDEA how provide for them selves. This was the state of the Union that Booker was left to take charge over. This was his vision and calling in life, reforming the South.

A Telling Visit

In his book he describes a scene where he was invited into the home of a newly freed family, and was asked in for diner. Upon walking into the house and taking a good look around, he noticed a brand new piano. Relaxing into his environment (piano oddly out-of-place), he asked his host “Who plays piano?” in response, the host replied “No one”.

As it had turned out, the residents of the house had gone out and mortgaged the piano as soon as they were able to get a line of credit. The piano, to them had symbolized prosperity and they were a very proud people to be able to show everyone in their town that they had a brand new piano… that no one could play!

After the conversation over the piano was over, Booker T. was invited to sit to eat. When he sat down to eat, all the food was set in front of him, including one knife! Yes, one knife for the whole family- including their guest!

Are Christians So Focused on Their “Pianos” They Are Being Forced to Share Knives?

Many of God’s children today are in this same predicament. You would think that after 2000+ years of freedom in Christ the slavery mentality would have completely spiritually been lifted, but sadly to say it has not. Many of God’s children are still working so hard to “look rich” that they have forgotten completely about the fundamentals! In addition to looking rich, they are stuck having to share the anointing of the blessed!

Before Christ died and was raised again, we were all slaves to sin. We had no choice, no options, just sin that lead unto death. After Christ’s sacrificial freeing act of shedding His blood by death on the cross, we were freed! It was our very own Emancipation Proclamation!

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36

As soon as new Christians received this freedom however, most of them began running into the world in order to use the things of the world for “prosperity”, hoarding things like; partying, sex, drugs, alcohol, debt, food of all variety and anything else that was prohibitive before. In order to “look rich” to the heathen they mortgaged their souls! But why did Christ really die? Was it in order that we could be free to sin… or was it so that we could be free to serve?!

There is Freedom in Voluntary Submission

Booker T. had a big challenge ahead of him, taking the slavery mentality and reeducating it to the  freedom found in voluntary submission. Submitting to God, submitting to their employers, submitting to the way that the natural world works (i.e. through the laws of sowing and reaping), etc. We all should learn by this example, we should all learn the value of voluntary submission.

Voluntary submission is fundamental to Christianity. All other religions teach that one must “do” what their gods instruct them to do in order to prosper or be “saved”. Christianity however teaches us to fundamentally base our faith in God and with submission and availability to Him. While reading the Bible is certainly the number one act of a Christian, ones ability to voluntarily choose to submit to God and His leadership is why Christ died for us.

“Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.” John 12:26

If you are a Christian who is “stuck” in life, always pedaling and never going anywhere- this message is for you. We as Christians are called to be as mindful of the reason the price for our sins was paid, as we are to be mindful of the freedom that the price of Christ was bought. What would the purpose be for including the Old Testament in the Bible, if we weren’t supposed to recall the way things were?

Things were horrible under the Law. No one could live up to its Laws. There was countless suffering, famine, drought, desperation and never-ending persecution from those who did not believe in God the Father. What Christ’s death meant to us was that forever more we would be able to follow after God wholeheartedly, and allow ONLY Him to direct our paths. NO MORE slavery to the master of this world- HURRAH!

The fundamental of Christianity is voluntary submission. Choosing to sell-out and follow God completely IS THE ONLY WAY for a Christian to become unstuck. If you desire to not have to share the anointing of your Pastor, brother or sister (like Booker had to share a knife at his dinner), and are ready to be blessed with the anointing for yourself in order to benefit others… then you must begin voluntarily submitting to God and His Word and begin reading the Bible for YOURSELF!

# 1 Fundamental: VOLUNTARILY SUBMIT

# 2 ACT: (This solidifies your commitment) READ YOUR BIBLE !

Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.” John 14:23

My prayers go out to you friends as you replace your thinking of enslavement to the true freedom of Christ. I am reminded in writing this about America and how it’s Founding Fathers sought to flee England’s persecution of HOW they should worship, to worshipping God by the Bible ONLY!

Living Heaven HERE On Earth

And God called the firmament Heaven. Genesis 1:8

WHEN ORGANIZATION MAKES OR BREAKS YOU

Have you ever wondered why being “organized” feels so good? Now, we can choose to fight organization with disorganization all day long, but at the end of the day being able to find our socks- just plain ROCKS.

What is it about being organized? I believe that we can find the answer to this orderly phenomenon in Genesis 1:8 of the Bible. As we read the history of creation, in Genesis 1:8 we find a very interesting and perhaps overlooked statement: And God called the firmament heaven.

Today was the first time reading Genesis 1:8, that I ever read this scripture in this way: And God called the state of being fixed (firm-a-ment) heaven. While heaven is absolutely the place where God lives and is as real as you and me, I have always been taught that according to Matthew 18:18, whatever happens in the natural realm can also happen parallel in the spiritual realm, therefore heaven to you and me can also be referred to as a state of being here on this earth.

BEFORE YOU CAN RECEIVE THIS MESSAGE

Before you can receive this message, you will have to receive the fact that God wants and desires wholeness for everyone. It was His plan through the death and resurrection of His Son Jesus, that we all be restored to the fullness of our covenant with God and that we all would be once again put into right standing with our Father.

Not only do those of us who receive Christ and choose to walk out our faith in Him receive the unmerited pleasure of having eternal life, we also have the choice to choose to live as Holy and redeemed individuals. It takes choice and it takes work- but it is possible, and it can be done.

When I refer to “heaven on earth”, I am referring to living a life in a way that is heavenly. A permanent state of what the Hebrew language calls shalom. (Shalom means: nothing missing, nothing broken, complete and whole.)

SO WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO LIVE HEAVEN ON EARTH?

After reading this scripture, in this newly revealed way, I began wondering if maybe we all couldn’t imply this Godly way of doing things (the organizing and firming of chaotic states) in our lives in order to help foster more of a heavenly life here on earth.

Testing out this revelation, our family went to the beach. I -for once- went prepared. We had sand toys, towels, books, extra clothes, music, and a kite. As I sat with my toes buried in the deep cool sand watching my babies (all 5) have the time of their lives- I thought to myself “THIS, this right here is HEAVEN.”

What made it “heaven”? Containment. Yes, all of the children in one way or another understood their boundaries of acceptability, and within those organized boundaries there was peace. We all were having our own heaven on earth moments, and it was due to the fact that we were all living with a set of easily understandable rules of enjoyment. Containment, organization, disciple, call it what you will– it removed stress, caused peace and brought us all a little piece of heaven.

THE MAN WITH THE DREADS

In contrast, as we were leaving the beach we stopped off at the grocery store and in the store I saw a very sloppy looking young man–couldn’t have been more than 23- in dread locks (not the good kind) and bare feet. He was walking around in a stupor, scratching his knotted head while dressed with one pant leg rolled higher than the other, sporting some very choice tattoos.

What was my first thought after having just experienced heaven on earth? I thought: “I bet this poor man has no idea how GOOD life can be with a little organization and discipline. I am sure he is not submitted to God, and that he has no idea what it means to live “heaven here on earth”, nothing missing and nothing broken. He looks broken- and people who tend to look broken, typically ARE broken.”

TEMPORARY HEAVEN IS NOT HEAVEN AT ALL

Having a “taste” of the good-life is never very satisfying is it? “Heaven” placebos like drugs, alcohol, sex, movies, and music can only take us so far. Like an airplane, eventually that elevated state MUST come down, and then people are left facing their unorganized and chaotic lives driving themselves to hurry and go and get another fix.

What we all inwardly desire, is to be able to live permanently in this glorious and euphoric state of “heaven” and when all things come together, we experience a very real and tangible type of manifested heaven. I believe that it is time for us all to “get our ducks in a row” and pray that God would begin working within us in the area of organization, and that He would continue to show us all HIS steps-in-line, that we could create within our own homes and daily lives a more heavenly and peaceable life.

A heavenly prayer for today*:

“Our Father which art in heaven,

Hallowed be thy name.

Thy Kingdom come.

Thy will be done

in Earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation,

But deliver us from evil:

for thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory for ever…

AMEN!”

May God fill you to overflowing today and all manner of new ideas toward your development of heavenly homes,

*As I was writing this, I thought… “Boy, if Jesus instructs us how to pray in an organized and structured manner… we could really be on to something!

God’s Kind of Economy & The Boy Scouts

“It is my job to leave my place cleaner than I found it.”

LEARNING GOD’S VIEW OF ECONOMICS… FROM THE SCOUTS?

The Boy Scout’s have a motto. The motto goes, “Leave your place CLEANER than you found it.” In other words: “If you get to a campsite, use it for a week and benefit from it, don’t just pack up and go. Clean it, and leave your location in better condition than it was when you first arrived.”

Scripture says:

“If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.” Matt. 5:41

What a great motto to live by. My husband Jeff and I have tried to live by it since we first heard a fellow name Frank Radford teach on it. An ex-Navy Seal, Frank was a mans man and was committed to always leaving everything better than he found it; people, houses, businesses, empty shopping carts… you name it!

God Wants You Rich

Paul Zane Pilzner in his book God Wants You to Be Rich: How and Why Everyone Can Enjoy Material and Spiritual Wealth in Our Abundant World, expertly explains how God is at work in this world and how each time when something starts to become, “scarce” God gives man invention or new idea for creating a new recourse. He was a graduate of Wharton School of Finance, and is a Professor of economics from the Christ centered point of view, ‘abundance’ not economics as it is defined “the study of scarcity.”

“Most people believe they should achieve wealth primarily for their own material comfort or that of their families. This is a far too narrow a view. God does want each of us to be rich in every possible way- health, love, and peace of mind, as well as material possessions. God wants this, however, not just for our own sake, but for the sake of all humankind. The reason, as we shall see throughout this book, is that an increase in wealth for an individual almost always represents an even larger increase in wealth for society at large. This is especially true in our modern economy, where the largest individual financial rewards are increasingly reserved for those people making the greatest positive impact on society.” Page 14

It is in God’s plan that we prosper and be in health. (3 John 2, Jer. 29:11) It is God’s plan to see the earth filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord (Hab 2:14), and for His people to live in abundance, according to Christ’s own words- “I have come that you might live life, and life it more abundantly”. John 10:10. Jesus says that it is the thief, or satan, who comes to destroy… and if we were in a limited resource/scarce world there would be no hope at all for abundance!

Think Abundantly!

If you have ever wondered what God’s view on economics and what His ‘BIG picture’ is for the world, I would encourage you to read this whole book. It is up to us, to leave this world a better place than we found it and employ the thinking of abundance, abundance, abundance, in ALL that we do! We can leave this place “better than we found it” by choosing to live our lives thinking abundantly – that we may have more than enough to give to others. We are called to encourage and edify each other and economically prosper by living out a lifestyle of Godly thinking, Godly initiative, and Godly results. Next time, if you are walking on the sidewalk and see some trash laying about… do your part, pick it up! If you see a woman who needs a coat, give her yours! If you see a man hungry for a meal- feed him! As you choose to loose sight of yourself and “neediness” and begin to see yourself as abundantly able to give… UNLIMITED resources, wealth, peace of mind is ALWAYS the result of taking good care of what God has entrusted unto us.

Giving to others through our decision to depend more on God than your “things”, is the key to living life in an abundant way, we were not made to be Nomads -withdrawing ALL resources to us- we have a covenant to occupy!

My Prayer Today,

Father God encourage Your people to occupy, and take up permanent residence in their lives. Whether they live by renting, or even if they live with others who help to take care of them, encourage my brothers and sisters to begin living a life of positive impact to others. Encourage Your children through understanding how to be blessings to others, leaving everyone they meet, better than before they met them! We take up our cross today, or responsibility to not only see a need and fill it, but see to need and surpass all expectations! We have You in us, and live by a spirit of excellence! Thank You Lord! in Your Sons name- AMEN!

God Bless you today as you clean up your life and positively impact the lives of others, leaving this world better than you found it,
