So Much Has Transpired…

So much has transpired in the last few days since I started reading books- like a dog goes to a bone. How stagnant I had become! I would like to begin today’s message by apologizing to my readers for having “lost” my previous edginess. The kind of edginess that led me before to write of sin, sex, morality, innovation, challenging the norm and making people M A D (but righteously so). It wasn’t that I had grown lukewarm-it was that I had grown “managerial”. YIKES! This Ministry has never been lead by a board- it has been led by the Spirit. Let me tell you-THE SPIRIT IS MOVING and in that moving- there is no room for MANAGEMENT!

So I am BACK. The “crazy-zainy-did-she-just-say-that” me is BACK. IT FEELS GOOD TO BE BACK!

“Tyler Perry says his career only took off after he was in complete forgiveness to the people who had hurt him”

Forgiveness Doesn’t Mean “I Forgive You”- It Means “I Am No Longer Going to Allow Myself to Be DEFINED By You.”

As I was driving home today from taking Jeff to work I began to think and pray to the Father, “Lord, have I forgiven everyone that every hurt me in my life? Have I forgiven my dad? My Grandparents? My previous boyfriends? Have I forgiven my Aunties/uncles/cousins? Do I harbor un-forgiveness  anywhere?” (This came about after hearing an interview done with Tyler Perry who said his career only took off after he was in complete forgiveness to the people who had hurt him. He had been performing his play for years, (6) before he hit it big. He hit it big after he forgave and in his words was healed “from the inside out”) Sounds familiar- sounds like our ministry work here at WHM. I have quoted myself saying “Our inward transformation determines any and ALL outward manifestation.” Of course, after I heard this coming out of mega-star Perry’s mouth- I wanting to be a good steward-prayed and asked the Lord to show me any areas of “un-forgiveness”.

That is when the Lord “opened up a can” and went to work on me.

The Q & A Started Pouring In (These Are Just a Few)

Why are you a blonde? Cause I was “daddy’s little girl”

Why do you eat meat? Cause Grandpa bought me cheeseburgers

Why don’t you run? Cause my friends decided it was better for me to “walk”

What an odd response to the subject of “forgiveness”. Here I asked God to show me who I needed to forgive and in reality, it wasn’t about me “forgiving” at all. It was God showing me all the areas in my life that I have allowed myself to be influenced by others-He showed me that as long as I was living a life based on what others wanted our desired- I WAS NOT WALKING IN FORGIVENESS. FORGIVENESS=ME BECOMING MORE LIKE HIM AND LESS LIKE THEM.

Why I WAS Blonde

The simple answer: My dad loved my mom who was blonde. I wanted to be loved, like that from my dad.

The complex reality: Being “blonde” is NOT who I am. If it was- I wouldn’t have to spend 100+ dollars a month to “STAY” blonde. I was choosing to be blonde, because it kept me “daddy’s little girl”. God MY GOD and Father- made my hair grow darker as I got older. I LOVE GOD, I WANT TO BE “HIS” LITTLE GIRL.

THE FORGIVENESS SOLUTION: GET YOUR HAIR DONE GIRL! My ultimate “sign” of forgiveness is for me to “go natural”. I am not living in forgiveness as long as I am justifying hundreds of dollars of hair care just-so-i-can-make-my-dad-proud!

Feels so good to be in my own skin!

Why I ATE Meat

The simple answer: My Grandfather loves meat. I love my Grandfather. (starting to get the picture)

The complex reality: I don’t really LIKE meat. I loooove cheese, beans and nuts. I mean, it is ok, but I-don’t-live-for-it like most people. I can remember at 13/14 deciding to become a “vegetarian”. I had not eaten meat for like 3 days, and was very proud of myself. Of course, given my meat-hungry family, I kept my mouth shut. Then there was a day when I was hungry and was with Grandpa out and about, naturally he took me to McDonald’s and bought me a cheeseburger. Naturally, I ate it. (In my defense, I did tell grandpa of my decision to NOT EAT MEAT. He laughed- and bought me the burger anyway)

THE FORGIVENESS SOLUTION: DON’T EAT FOOD IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT! God Lord! How many people are shoving their faces with pumpkin pie RIGHT NOW, just cause Grandma “made it best”. How many people are suffering through dim-sum, or spicy food, or greasy pizza… Just because their boyfriend/girlfriend/family thought it was “THE BOMB”. If this is you- begin walking in forgiveness today, PUT THE PIE … D O W N!

Why I DIDN’T Run … or Exercise At ALL

The simple answer: My friends were “too cool” to run. I wanted to be cool.

The complex reality: I love to go on long walks and I really love RUNNING. When my boyfriend and I were taking P.E. together in Jr. High School, I can remember this overwhelming urge to R U N. I had a ton of pent up anxiety and I wanted to GO. I suggested we “run”. I was laughed at, what was a potential 5 minute mile- turned into an 18 minute walk. I was devastated, and quit running ever since (except for periodically).

THE FORGIVENESS SOLUTION: RUN! WALK! MOVE! My body is too valuable a resource to watch whither away and die, simply because when I was a kid and I wanted to “look cool”. Time to put on some tunes- and get moving!

Just cause Grandma made it, and you loved Grandma- doesn’t mean you need to eat it to show/receive love. Forgive your Mamma and MOVE ON

In Conclusion

If you are STILL doing something- a behavior, a habit, even a job-because of someone else-You have not completely forgiven them. If you drive “just like dad”, curse “just like dad”, smoke “just like dad” or drink “just like dad”… GUESS WHAT?! YOU ARE MORE YOUR DAD THAN YOU ARE YOU! You can SAY “I forgive you” ALL DAY LONG, but until you STOP being like the people who you have had issues with… YOU STILL GOT ISSUES!

My Prayer Today-

Father God be with your children. Encourage them to forgive and MOVE on and be who they DESIRE to be. Today I was reminded that I am a tea-totalling (I remembered I don’t really like booze, and just drank on occasion to be “sophisticated”), vegetable eating, cross-training, brunette. PRAISE THE LORD- IT’S GREAT TO BE ME! Give Your children the strength that they need- to be the people YOU created them to be. This is the year of Creative Newness- praise GOD that the newness I have found is for the FIRST TIME really being ME! FREEDOM! In Your Son Jesus’ name, AMEN!

May God Bless YOU-

Your friend,

You Can’t Shrink Your Way to Greatness! Need some Innovation for 2011? Try this!

2011 THE Year of “Creative Newness”

This year, from November 27-2010 to November 27, 2011, I have embarked on a challenge with a few close friends. A let’s-see-how-many-books/pages-you-can-read-this-year- challenge. The inspiration has come from President George Bush’s book Decision Points. He and a friend of his embarked on this same challenge and the result was in his own words: “The total [respective] tally [between Karl and me] was 110 to 95 in
books, 40,347 to 37,343 in pages, and 2,275,297 to 2,032,083 in total square inches.”

So in the spirit of innovation and creative learning (via books and practical experiences vs “school” learning) I am currently reading two books. Decision Points and You Can’t Shrink Your Way to Greatness: The Circle of Innovation by Tom Peters.

Can I just say- I am only on page 15, and I think I like Tom Peters style.. ALOT!

The Circle of Innovation is the overarching idea which animates this book. Here’s a quick preview of the 15 stops along the way…

1. DISTANCE IS DEAD. We’re all next-door neighbors. Incrementalism is innovation’s worst enemy. Mid-to long-term: Business is augmenting the top line … not cost minimization.

2. DESTRUCTION IS COOL! CDO… Chief Destruction Officer. Easier to KILL an organization-and repot it-than change it substantially. Learn to swallow it: DESTRUCTION IS JOB NO. 1 (before the competition does it to you)

3. YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT AN ERASER. Forgetting-not learning-is the highest art. Think: ORGANIZED forgetting. STRATEGIC forgetfullness. How? Cherish WASTE… SILLINESS… FAILURE. I.e. Ready. FIRE! Aim.

4. WE ARE ALL MICHELANGELOS. Convert every “jobholder” into a BUSINESS PERSON. Convert every job into a BUSINESS. “Business” is a very different-and more encompassing-word than “empowerment.” Keys: trust/respect/Michelangelos of Housekeeping/Michelangelos of Telemarketing. Boss as … RELENTLESS ARCHITECT OF THE POSSIBILITIES OF HUMAN BEINGS.

6. ALL VALUE COMES FROM THE PROFESSIONAL SERVICES. Make staff units The Vital Centers of Intellectual Capital Accumulation … rather than the prime source of bureaucratic drag. Tool: Turn Purchasing (HR, IS, Finance) into PURCHASING, INC. … a full-fledged professional service firm … devoted to TRANSFORMATIONAL projects/awesome CLIENT service/WOW!

7. THE INTERMEDIARY IS DOOMED. (Big) organizations without employees. EVERY task your organization performs is performed BETTER (higher quality, faster, more imaginatively) by some hyper-fast specialist (somewhere) who lives/eats/sleeps/breathes the narrow task. FLAT is too modest a term. (By far.) We are gutting the “center” of vertical enterprises. THE INTERMEDIARY IS DYING/DEAD! Hail the disintermediated/network “organization” … transparent to its customers (and all members of the value-creation chain).

8. THE SYSTEM IS THE SOLUTION. (1) Systems are the glue … in ephemeral/network “orgs.” (2) Systems-great systems-are not about “nuts and bolts.” they are/can be … BEAUTIFUL. Systems Engineering Dept.? NO! Dept. of Beauty?? YES!! It’s W-A-Y beyond reengineering.

9. CREATE WAVES OF LUST. (Almost) everything works. Quality per se is not the advantage it once (recently) was. So: Just shout “NO!” to … commoditization (of anything)/me-too/look-alikes. Embrace: WOW!!!/lusted-after products and services! Ultimate sin: WHEN WE DO IT “RIGHT”, IT’S STILL PRETTY ORDINARY.

10. TOMMY HILFIGER KNOWS. In a (very) crowded marketplace … branding if (far) more important than ever before. It is … THE AGE OF THE BRAND! (1) Anything can be branded (e.g. chicken, milk). (2) Branding is as much for the very wee outfit as for Levi’s or Nike or Starbucks or Intel (Inside).

11. BECOME A CONNOISSEUR OF TALENT. RECRUIT DIVERSITY! HIRE CRAZIES! Make REVOLUTIONARY RENEWAL everyone’s (LITERAL) Job No.1. We are … ALL … RDAs … Rapidly Depreciating Assets. Therefore: (Continuing) Vitality = (Continuing) Commitment to (Bold/Formal) Renewal Programs … by … EVERYONE.

12. IT’S A WOMAN’S WORLD. Women purchase/are purchasing agents for well over half the U.S. GDP (commercial and consumer goods). Almost no BigCo. “gets it” -financial services, healthcare, autos, business services, etc., etc. I.e., “gets” catering-to-women-as-premier-purchasers. WHY?? It takes TOTAL TRANSFORMATION-not a “woman’s initiative”-to take advantage of this bizarrely neglected COMMERCIAL OPPORTUNITY NO.1.

13. LITTLE THINGS ARE THE ONLY THINGS. As markets get more and more (and more) crowded … DESIGN is often the best “tool”-in services and manufacturing- for sustainable differentiation. Sad fact: Most companies do anything but OBSESS (e.g., Braun-like, Sony-like) on design. Personal design sensitization is Step No. 1: Home in on (OPEN YOUR EYES TO) the pervasive role that design plays in everything-signage, forms, typeface, color (a big deal), etc., etc.

14. LOVE ALL, SERVE All. Even today (WHY??WHY??WHY???) a ridiculously small number of sizable firms seek a sustainable edge through incredible service-Disney- or Caterpillar-style. To get from (tawdry) here to (olympian) there takes a wholesale commitment to nothing less than reconceiving the way business is done in  your market/niche.

15. WE’RE HERE TO LIVE LIFE OUT LOUD. Transformational leaders will eschew “hands off.” They will be bizarrely focused … tell the truth … and live life on the LUNATIC FRINGE. I.e., revolutionary times call for revolutionary zeal/leaders.

You Can’t Shrink Your Way to Greatness: Circle of Innovation by Tom Peters published 1997 pages xvi-xviii)

My Friends,

I have never typed i.e. or e.g. so many times in such a short spanned document! Tom Peters truly is as creative in his story telling as he is in his writing! I am encouraged to read this work, both on the premise that this is where the market is going-and-that it was written 13 years ago! We still have not “tapped” into all of the creative bullet-points that he has so articulately (and creatively) expressed.

The Lord God is a CREATOR and the devil is a counterfeiter. If you have the opportunity to sit down and drill deeper into these 15 bullet-points in order to “create” a new and improved creative and innovative “YOU” than DO IT! The word that I received last month from the Lord in regards to 2011 is that 2011 year is that it is the year of “Creative Newness”. It is time my friends, to delve into the Creative Spirit of God and create something NEW! “New for me” is not enough-this next year-NEW for EVERYONE is our battle cry!

My Prayer Today-

Lord God let your children feel the presence of You in all their ideas today and this coming year. Give them ideas and show them where we as an economy are going. Give them key insight into the future and what needs to happen next for them and this WORLD. We desire to hasten the return of your Son Jesus, and we believe that it is through creative expressions of You and Your Love, that this will occur. The end time transfer has begun, and we are creative enough and willing enough IN YOU to advance in faith-during this Creative and New Year! In Your Son Jesus’ name AMEN!

God Bless you today as you do everything excellent and new!

Love Always,

Living in Safety and Knowing the Future: Today’s HOT Topic

Following after God can be extremely difficult, if you don’t understand why you should. Why follow, listen, abide by and care, if you’re doing ‘ok’ on your own ?

Living in Safety and Knowing the Future

Giving orders to the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests, who are Levites, carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. But keep a distance of about a thousand yards between you and the ark; do not go near it.”Joshua 3:3-4

Have you ever had the opportunity to travel via motorcade, Police escort, or even followed behind someone with your hazard signals on?

Last year, most of the electrical system went out on one of our cars. The blinkers, some lights, and horn had shorted out, and we had to take it to the dealership. In order to do this, we had to take two cars. There was a lead car, and I was in the following car -our car. Immediately I recognized a great sense of peace, following after the lead car. I was able to go at a slower, more relaxed pace, and I was not at all concerned with the cars issues (because I wasn’t alone). I also was able to enjoy a smooth ride, the lead car having “charted” the way.

A pace car setting the start of a race

Following, Can Lead us to Multiply our Efficiency

Anytime that we follow someone, the resistance has become minimized and our efficiency becomes multiplied. Consider this passage in Joshua. The ark of the covenant of the Lord had to travel 1,000 yards ahead of the people, why? The instructions were simple, they had never gone that way before, in order to have success the people had to follow the ark. The ark lead the way into territory the people had never gone before, and unless you are a time traveller- you haven’t been to tomorrow yet!

Are you in a place in your life that you have never been before? Or maybe it is the same place, day after day, and you are dying to get out! Is your life ‘broken down’? Do you feel like your car has a short circuit, and you have been left on the side of the road, not knowing which way to go? What you need is a lead car. That “lead car” can easily be God, simply by putting His Word first place in your life,  and by asking Him to be filled with His Holy Spirit, He will begin to show you the way.

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. John 16:13 NLT

Make God your pilot and never get lost again!

God is not your Co-Piolot, He is our lead Aviator! He is our Beginning and End (Rev 22:13), and our protector (2 Thes. 3:3)! With God at the helm, not only do you have a lead car, you have a car behind, a car on each side, a car above, and a car below! Imagine that! Driving down the freeway of life completely surrounded! You will know the future, and things to come! Praise God for HIS power!

Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But not with God. Everything is possible with God.”Mark 10:27

My Prayer Today,
“Father God, I surrender. I want the kind of protection that the Israelites had following your ark, your covenant. I wanted to be completely surrounded and led. I am tired of doing things on my own and YOUR best, is good enough for ME! Thank you for Your Holy Spirit which dwells within me, and thank you for showing me the future. I love you, in Your Son Jesus’ name- AMEN.”

God Bless you today and everyday,

Prayer for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit*,

“Heavenly Father, I am a believer. I am Your child and You are my Father. Jesus is my Lord. I believe with all my heart that Your Word is true. Your Word says if I will ask, I will receive the Holy Spirit. So in the Name of Jesus Christ, my Lord, I am asking You to fill me to overflowing with Your precious Holy Spirit. Jesus, baptize me in the Holy Spirit. Because of Your Word, I believe that I now receive and I thank You for it. I believe the Holy Spirit is within me and, by faith, I accept it. Now, Holy Spirit, rise up within me as I praise God. I fully expect to speak with other tongues, as You give me the utterance.”

Now begin giving sound to the expressions in your heart. Speak and hear the Holy Spirit speaking through you. Rejoice! You’ve just been baptized in the Holy Spirit! You’ve been endued with power—hallelujah!

*This prayer is from an article ‘How to Receive the Holy Spirit’,

Best Selling Book “Decision Points” by The Former President, George W. Bush (An Excerpt)

“Billy, some people say you have to have a born-again experience to go to heaven. Mother [my Grandmother] here is the most religious, kind person I know, yet she has had no born-again experience. Will she go to heaven?” – George H.W. Bush

“Self-Improvement” is Not The Point of the Bible

Regardless of what you think of one mans politics over another I -looking at a man or woman of faith- am always intrigued by ones personal testimony of faith and reflections of Christ. The former United States President, George W. Bush has just released a most telling and inspiring biographical book called Decision Points, and I would like to share with you a passage from it:

“In the summer of 1985, we took our annual trip to Maine. Mother and Dad had invited the great evangelical preacher Billy Graham. Dad had asked him to answer some questions from the family after dinner. That was typical of Dad, always willing to share. It would have sent a signal of importance to have had Billy to himself, but that was not George H.W. Bush. He is a generous man, devoid of a big ego. So there we sat, about thirty of us-Laura, my grandmother, brothers and sister, first and second cousins- in the large room at the end of the house on Walker’s Point.

The first question was from Dad. He said, “Billy, some people say you have to have a born-again experience to go to heaven. Mother [my Grandmother] here is the most religious, kind person I know, yet she has had no born-again experience. Will she go to heaven?” Wow, pretty profound question from the old man. We all looked at Billy. In his quiet, strong voice, he replied, “George, some of us require a born-again experience to understand God, and some of us are born Christians. It sounds as if your mom was just born Christian.”

I was captivated by Billy. He had a powerful presence, full of kindness and grace, and a keen mind. The next day, he asked me to go for a walk around the property. He asked about my life in Texas. I talked to him about the girls and shared my thought that reading the Bible could make me a better person. In his gentle, loving way, Billy began to deepen my shallow understanding of faith. There’s nothing wrong with using the Bible as a guide to self-improvement, he said. Jesus’ life provides a powerful example for our own. But self-improvement is not really the point of the Bible. The center of Christianity is not the self. It is Christ.

Billy explained that we are all sinners, and that we cannot earn God’s love through good deeds. He made clear that the path to salvation is through the grace of God. And the way to find that grace is to embrace Christ as the risen Lord-the son of a God so powerful and loving that he gave His only son to conquer death and defeat sin. These were profound concepts, and I did not fully grasp them that day. But Billy planted a seed. His thoughtful explanation had made the soil less firm and the brambles less thick.

Shortly after we got back to Texas, a package from Billy arrived. It was a copy of The Living Bible. He had inscribed: “To my friend George W. Bush, May God bless you and Laura always.” He included a reference to Philippians 1:6: “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”

At first I was troubled by my doubts. The notion of a living God was a big leap, especially for someone with a logical mind like mine. Surrendering yourself to an Almighty is a challenge to the ego. But I came to realize that struggles and doubts are natural parts of faith. If you haven’t doubted, you probably haven’t thought very hard about what you believe.

Ultimately faith is a walk-a journey toward greater understanding. It is not possible to prove God’s existance, but that cannot be the standard for belief. After all, it is euqally impossible to prove that He doesn’t exist. In the end, whether you believe or don’t believe, your position is based on faith.

That realization freed me to recognize signs of God’s presence. I saw the beauty of nature, the wonder of my little girls, the abiding love of Laura and my parents, and the freedom that comes with forgiveness-all what the preacher Timothy Keller calls “clues of God.” I moved ahead more confidently on my walk. Prayer was the nourishment that sustained me. As I deepened my understanding of Christ, I came closer to my original goal of being a better person-not because I was racking up points on the positive side of the heavenly ledger, but because I was moved by God’s love.” [Decision Points, pages 31-33]

“I saw the beauty of nature, the wonder of my little girls, the abiding love of Laura and my parents, and the freedom that comes with forgiveness”

Buy this book! 🙂 You’ll LOVE it! (And will be supporting a brother-in-Christ)

May God bless you friends and His love shine on you always,

Your friend,

Every Holiday “The Same?”, What’s on Your Holiday Resumé?

Our Holiday Interviews

It occurred to me this morning as I was stoking the Thanksgiving Day fire, that every holiday seems to be just about the same. 5, 10, 15+ people all forced into the same space together, made to justify their positions. Johnny did this last year, Katie did that. My job is xyz…

Come to think of it, Holiday gathering has become more like a harried interview process for approval of position, than just “hanging” out and fellowship. This thought of Holiday Grandstanding led me to think, what’s on my Holiday Resumé? Have I done anything worth mentioning?

The Holiday’s can be very difficult. This is the only time of year when the Astronaut sits next to the High School drop-out, the Stay-at-home mom sits next to the Cooperate Exec., and the sinner sits next to the Saint. Those who have achieved some level of success decide to speak lowly of themselves (typically), and those who have done seemingly nothing speak higher of themselves. Why? Why do we do it? Why “gather” at all?

God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful. 1 Cor 1:9

We Have Been Called Into Fellowship

Scripture says in 1 Corinthians 1:9, that we have been called into fellowship with Christ. This unnerving desire that we have to be together with another human being is in our very nature, it is embedded way down deep within our core. It has been scientifically proven that babies who are not coddled or cared for, who are left alone, will suffer and eventually die from emotional un-attachment. They will always have problems with social acceptance, due to their inability to adequately  fellowship with others.

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Acts 2:42

We are Called to Devote Ourselves to Teaching and Fellowhip

As devoted followers of Christ, we are called to fellowship. We are called to assemble and eat together, play together, work together and worship together. Togetherness unites us in prayer and belief in Christ. If we are not grounded in our belief we become like every other religion, country and group of people, having rituals all with the same unfortunate desired end… self glorification. “It has been a year… LOOK at me now.”

This year when we shop, let us pray for the perfect gift that someone might need or want.

This Year’s Challenge

As we enter the 2010 Holiday Season, I feel challenged to forgo the old way of doing things. The dressing up for what makes us “look best”, the speaking highly of ourselves to make us “look best”, the gift giving to make us “look best”… all of the trappings that lead us to think only of ourselves. The reality is that our resumé’s in Christ are all ready perfected. He loves us, and we have nothing to “prove”! We have but only to serve!

Your Resumé In Christ

Giving to Others What the Lord Influences You to Give

Our first Holiday party was last Saturday. Everyone was requested to bring something. This time rather than spend all day shopping, cooking, and bothering I asked the Lord what I should bring. Five minutes before the party started He instructed me to buy bread. What a simple dish. Bread. As it turns out, no one else had thought to bring bread. Praise be to the Lord, listening to the Holy Spirit I was able to get for the party exactly what the host needed.

Would I have rather brought a mile high meringue pie? Probably. Would I have rather slaved all day in the kitchen and cooked a gourmet something-or-other? Of course. But these Holidays aren’t about me, I am blessed- just the way I am. So are YOU!

This year when we shop, let us pray for the perfect gift that someone might need or want. Let us seek the Lord to fill the desire of others hearts. It might be something as big as a house or a car, it might be money, it might be a blanket, it might even be a phone call or a hug.

In our conversations, let us pray that we might speak to the weary what they need to hear. In our homes, let us bless them so that our friends and family can receive the warmth and comfort that they need. Let us forget the tendency toward ostentatiousness for impression, and give the gift of practical expression. Others need your love this Holiday and your resumé exudes endless amounts of love! As we strive this year to give and serve… there will be nothing “the same” about it!

God Bless you this Holiday Season, we have so much to be thankful for,

Love Always-
